if i join a match, lately i've tried this if there's a big discrepancy in equipment.
the host always tees off first on the first hole, so this can be fun.
if they get 225 out of their drive or whatever, I try and pick a club outta that will juuuusssst get me past them a yard or two. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A good shot as planned keeps them hitting next.
their approach shot, whatever it may be and wherever it lands (o.b. not included).....I will do the same......follow them to their landing zone and try and be a yard or two closer to the hole.
once on the green, all bets are off........
it's kinda fun sometimes to play copy cat. it helps you really learn your clubs too. and who doesn't mind getting better and longer approach shots? hitting out of an extra trap or two or having to pitch or chip or flop on your 3rd shot rather than putt from 10 feet.
as long as the host doesn't get offended or whatever, it can be quite fun. let em know ahead of time what you have in mind sometimes helps.
but, in my country club, when playing memebers......I'm not gonna play that game :) just in random mp games I join (provided I don't get kicked) Finished a few more games that I thought with this method. Closer match and kinda fun. Lose plenty but who cares
