gfsullivan:Tiers is not the answer. WGT needs to figure how to make shooting 59 a near impossibility for anyone. Breaking 60 should be as hard as it is in real life for pro golfers. Until they figure that out, the problem will not change.
How do you suggest they do that? Move all the tee boxes farther back? Well, that might hurt the Legends, but it would still leave the lower tiers with the same equipment as Legends but shorter holes. Realistically, since even Hacks can get the very best equipment, to do that they'd have to move the Hack tees back to behind where the Legend tees are now.
Have you ever noticed when someone has a bad game, they come on here and yell that "WGT has changed putting! WGT has changed chipping! WGT has changed the way the ball reacts to wind!" Imagine the outcry if they intentionally tried to make each course 3-4 strokes harder.
But, really, the point is that... sure, you could move every tee box back another 25 yards. That might make sub-60s rare amongst the Legends. But you'd still have TMs, that have access to the same equipment, hitting from 20 yards in front. You'd still have TPs, who have access to the same equipment, hitting from 40 yards in front. So, while sub-60s might be rare for the Legends, they'd still happen in the tiers before Legend. And does it really make sense to intentionally engineer the game so that the best players shoot the worst scores?
I think before we address any disparity between the have-Legends and the have-not-Legends, we first need to address the problems with the tiers as they currently exist. One other thing I might suggest is a max level per tier, if WGT isn't willing to add in some perks that make elevation a desirable thing.
Hack - max level 20
Amateur - max level 35
Pro - max level 50
Tour Pro - max level 60
Master - max level 70
Tour Master - max level 80
Legend - no max level
Understand, this is not my preferred solution. However, if this is all they are willing to do to make tier elevation something other than solely a major disadvantage, then I'd support it. I know many that have achieved levels of 88 or higher that are not Legends, and while I like those people, I do not think it's fair that they get the same equipment as Legends with easier conditions. My preferred solution is that, in any competition where tiers compete against each other (MPCs, open tourneys, open RGs, alt shot), the conditions should be the same for all competitors, including tee boxes, wind, greens, etc.
