The pitch can be a b*tch, but it sure helps sometimes.

Every time I see this thread title it makes the song "Walk Like an Egyptian" pop into my head.

The pitch can be a charm when played at about 75% of value

Ok i'm gonna go off topic here for some help ,is there any rule of thumb on how far you should aim to compensate for the wind for example if its 20 mph left to right how far should i compensate to the left?

It totally depends on the shot you're trying to take and what club you're using. They all react differently and hitting them is the only way you're going to know.

Go with the full shot..... everything else is a guess. The 64º Cleveland wedge is all you need. With practice the short game is very easy:)

This.  Call it lazy golf if you want, but as I have said, I'm betting I come as close as anyone from around the green within 30y, and I never hit anything but full BS full shot with the L80 Cleveland 64.

Hey JB I think you wrote on my wall a year or so ago telling me you used that tip. Glad it works out for you. Since you used that tip and trusted me, use this tip or at least give it a try sometime. Any chip from just off the green where the slope is running away try the flop. The ball will still roll giving it a better chance to go in than the regular flop but is MUCH more controllable than full. I'm only talking about those certain shots. You know how adamant I am on using full shot for everything. Just as you are now. But for those once every 4 or 5 round shots, it's worth it and works.

ty for u comment, didnt know u could do that, but wouldnt it be easier and quicker to just whack the first line in the meter?

The short answer is, if you 'whack the 1st meter line' it's no longer truly a flop shot; the trajectory and distance are severely impacted.

To amplify a bit: if you hit early (in order to be able to aim the flop directly at target) the trajectory of the shot will be lower, the carry distance significantly shorter, and the run-out after landing will be longer. the result is that you have to make other compensations to end up near your target (the hole, I hope!). To me, you're just adding complications.

The whole object of the flop is usually to advance the ball a relatively short distance with a high trajectory to clear some sort of obstacle like a bunker or water, or severe terrain variation which would complicate another shot type like the chip or pitch.

Which is why you practice with full back spin and that line. Regardless of the flight the key is to be able to stop the ball at certain yardages. By using the same constants (bs and that line) you can fairly accurately predict the outcome. By using the most restrictive yardage setup it is very easy to modulate the yardage by relaxing the spin.

It's a gamer thing because your description of the flop objective is exactly right. It's just much easier to get up and down with it when you have to.
