  Dont know if this is common knowledge, but i believe many may not know how to hit a flop shot straight. Some will tell u to aim way left, but i think thats a bit of a guessing game. To hit the perfectly straight flop shot u must hit the first line in your meter, not the middle one u normally hit. Hope this will help with ur flops. Distance will depend on what wedges u have, i speculate the better the wedges the more accurate the distance. i do know that starter wedges are often 3 to 4 yrds too long.

  With my limited experience in this game i have discovered that using this method out of heavy rough and sand can lead to some very bad shots. From fairway, fringe and light rough this method does indeed produce good results. Also in heavy winds some aim adjustment is necessary.

  I am sure those here with extensive experience are well versed in the use of the flop shot and their advice should not be taken lightly.

  No, I will not.  I play nothing but full shot, and am quite pleased with my short game, thank you very much.  I'm betting I can drain a full shot from the fringe 6y with a Cleveland 64 degree and a Callaway ball (check the distance to see if it is a full 6y, check the break the last yard, hit it either 12y-14y with full BS) as easily as most can a chip (or pitch from farther).  I tried to be well rounded, learned all the shots, and in the course of doing so, found that full shot works best for me in pretty much every situation around the green.  Takes away reading all but the last couple of yards of green by the hole.  Just takes practice.  I found from 30-40 I add an extra 2-3 yards and from 40-50 I add 4-5 yards.  From anywhere inside 30y, I'm 98% either in the hole or a one-putt away, and those two % are usually when I blow an easy putt.

  Which is not too close to real life.  Who can flop a ball 37 yards of the fairway / fringe other than Phil with any sort of confidence and consistency?  Flop shots should work better out of heavier rough, as there is more room to get the club head under the ball (assuming the ball is not buried).

  The Cleaveland 64 wedge is great for shot flops (10-20yrd) range. Works well out of rough, but have to be careful when on the Fringe. The wind and slope on greens can affect the shot, so a slight adjustment of the aimer as previously said is needed.

  100 percent correct but it will take a lot of distance off the shot so you have to hit extra,and it can be tricky in rough Esp,30 40 and 40 50,playing it that way

  This is just my 2 cents worth, but I use the flop every shot from 5 to 15 yards. The way I aim is set the shot to whatever shows the grid. Then if the shot is under 10 yards I move the pointer 1 1/2 squares left, if it's over 10 yards I move the pointer 2 full squares left. Re-set the shot to a flop. Set full back-spin And once you work-out the distance depending on the wedge and ball combo you use, it will stop within 1 or 2 feet of the pin. Give it a shot and let me know how it worked for you. I have taught this shot to a couple other players i play group games with and they have had good success with it as well.
