Hows this for a flop, cleveland W64 full backspin. http://www.wgt.com/replay.aspx?ID=e2b78228-6b31-4734-ab9c-9f80009a0a41

I play the flops like bittydog (more or less, lol). With the Cleveland wedges which have 20, 29 and 38 yd 100% flop ranges, at max range I aim left 3, 4, or 5 grid squares respectively. Back off on the aim offset proportionally at lesser ranges.

Where the flops really help are shorter bunker shots. For BP 15-20 lies dial in the actual yardage, but for CCC 30-40 lies you'll need ~180% of actual ydg (eg, 10 yds to pin, you'll need a 18 yd flop.

As mentioned previously, I don't like the 'aim straight & hit early on the first mark' method because now you have to re-calibrate all your distances. Besides, why break the routine of doing the best you can to hit the ding?

100 percent correct but it will take a lot of distance off the shot so you have to hit extra, and it can be tricky in rough Esp,30 40 and 40 50,playing it that way

I found that when you learn or practice this shot if you do it using full backspin all the time you will be able to figure out how much distance you lose in each lie. This way you can use topspin to adjust  that based on where and how it will be landing on the green.

One mistake I personally got away from is flopping every chance I got. This is a good up and down shot, usually for saves, but you have a better chance of holing pitches and chips, so don't forsake them.

Exactly. The only time I use flop is on a severe downhill shot from off the green. STA#5 comes to mind from in front. The rest are full shot with the 64°. Unless I'm within 8 yrds or so then I use chip with my 64°.

You want to get the ball on the ground and rolling at least a couple yards from the hole to have more of a chance to hole it.

I've tried and tried to use pitch and just can not get as consistent as I can using full shot.

Totally off-topic DS, but how do you get the degrees sign in your posts? I've tried and the best I can do is *. Tips, please?

Regarding flop, yada et yada, I use pretty much pitch the whole time and since I did this I have a great holing rate. However, IMO you need the Cleveland wedges or Z Satin 64* wedge. The Cleveland pitch full backspin checks up after 2 or 3 bounces, so it's a safe par or birdie 95% of the time. That 5% is either human error or severely downhill.

I recommend the L78 Cleveland CG16 60* wedge heavily for anyone who wants to make birdies after missing GIR, and Eagle a few short par5's and very short par4's.
