I found if you go to the chip shot, and the reverse view you will see the pointer is in the center of one of the squares, now move the pointer to the right 2 squares ( you must take the wind into consideration ) now adjust your BS and you can ding the shot

The reason is that shooting off the ding takes away from the distance of the shot ( IMO )

because your not hitting the ball at 100%

,is there any rule of thumb on how far you should aim to compensate for the wind for example if its 20 mph left to right how far should i compensate to the left?

It totally depends on the shot you're trying to take and what club you're using. They all react differently and hitting them is the only way you're going to know.

Exactly right, YJ! But that won't stop me from passing on my rule of thumb to Fredddddy, lol.

My assumption - just to keep it 'on topic' - is that he's asking the context of the flop shot. For simplicity, I'll give my rule of thumb for my mid-wedge (the Cleveland 60) which has a 100% flop range of  29 yds; the offsets for wind are for a full swing.

No x-wind, aim 4 grid squares (8') left; add or subtract a grid square for each 10mph of x-wind. For the 64 wedge (20yd full shot) use 1/2 of above wind correction; for the 56 wedge, double the above wind correction.

Will my rule of thumb yield precisely correct results? Not just 'no' but Hell no! Nicely enough though it will often achieve my personal goal, which is to to get the dang ball within 1-putt range - <3 or 4 feet or so.

Gary and Bob-Do yourselves both a favor and just try it. Don't touch the aim and hit the first mark left of the ding. You'll get rollout so use the bs to stop it.  See what happens.  ;-)

With Callaway spinners the 64 flops 15 with full bs,  the 60 flops 26.

Like WW, tried it, But my results varied. first 'early' line does eliminate the need to offset aim, however with full backspin I got 18 - 19 yds total with the 64 CG16 and Cally Z. roll was about 4yds. CG16 56 wedge gave me 38 - 39 yds with 6 or 7 yds of roll.

My testing ground was BP10 - BP12; to get multiple tries I putted back off to apron or collection area, thus taking a 10 on each hole. (Note: seeing you're +18 after 3 holes is demoralizing to say the least, lol.)

Interesting experiment for sure, but I'll probably stick with my method - it works for me.

The old adage of "Different strokes for different folks!" has a lot more meaning for me now, lol.

I'm betting I come as close as anyone from around the green within 30y,

    With your stats.....

    Holed Approach Shots     68
    Sand Save % 55.89%
    Scrambling % 58.73%

    versus a top-players' stats....

    Holed Approach Shots     699
    Sand Save % 85.35%
    Scrambling % 84.73%

....you might find that people will call full BS on that one.

This alone was worth the time, Bob. Thanks for those numbers. It makes it really clear just how valuable the s ball is if you want that control. Plus, now you have another shot option you're familiar with.  :-)

Dont know if this is common knowledge, but i believe many may not know how to hit a flop shot straight. Some will tell u to aim way left, but i think thats a bit of a guessing game. To hit the perfectly straight flop shot u must hit the first line in your meter, not the middle one u normally hit. Hope this will help with ur flops. Distance will depend on what wedges u have, i speculate the better the wedges the more accurate the distance. i do know that starter wedges are often 3 to 4 yrds too long.

Thanks for this tip. Have tried it out last few days and am holing around 1 in 4 at the moment!

Flop is one of the most precise shots (if not the most) in this particular game. Within a range of 35 feet you can be deadly precise.

At legend level you have already mastered to it's maximum & not going in the hole it is a matter of hitting the ding or not, however landing your ball within 1-4 feet is a normal result.

Wind has particular effect on the flight indeed,  so aiming considering the wind is crucial.

I normally give 100% back spin to my flops so when the ball land is just a "dead" landing, although when the range is just a bit over or several feet over, I will even add top spin. I have noticed that when flopping to up hill flag position will give lots of back spin (probably because I use the Cleveland wedges) then I add a bit of top spin.

Still unbelievable some legends can not flop & hit full in a 10-20 feet shot from fairway, rough or fringe. Must admit some are just so skilled that get the along with the shot, but miss more then using the flop.

    ...just my two cents.
