    SgtDoodles:

Birdwell, just out of interest, have you actually tried out the Burner 2.0's?

I haven't. I'm sure they are awesome. But that does not change the fact that there are great rounds to be had using the g10's.

When i play against another legend with those irons. 1 of 3 things happens. I beat them with my putting, they beat me with their putting, or i beat myself. irons rarely have much to do with it.

When you're dinging the driver you're late on the irons and when you're dinging the irons you're pulling your drives. You can master the difference but it isn't easy.

I totally agree with YJ.  The different swing speeds between the Burner 2.0s, wedges and woods is a challenge.  You really have to think about what club/swing speed you are using for each shot and in my case, I still have trouble dinging.  That being said, the 2.0s are still worth it.

Hey there Broahes. I'm a Tour Master. I use to play with the G10's. And I loved them. Didn't think I would ever switch them out, but then the Burners came out and man what a difference! I love them and don't really foresee myself playing with anything else. The stopping power is great. Plus the longest iron goes 220yds. Pretty good distance. So if you think you can master the different meter speeds then I would strongly encourage you to get them. I'm pretty close to turning legend and that extra distance that the Burners provide I'm sure will come in handy.

Now on to the wedges. With my clubs, I wanted to try to cover all my yardage from my driver (which is 282yds) down to my shortest wedge (which is 50yds). That way I have a club for virtually every situation. Well the smallest iron I have goes 125yds. I used to play with 3 wedges and the longest one went 98yds. So I dropped my 3wood and now play with 4 wedges. So the biggest gap I have is between my driver and my longest iron. I can deal with that. My wedges start at 110yds, then 98yds, 77yds, and finally 50yds. So with the punch shot I have a club for everything. They are ALL Z Satins. I learned them inside and out and probably will never switch. When the Clevlands came out I heard good things and a few bad things. But it just comes down to taking the time to learn them. But for me and the way I looked at it was, if it ain't broke don't fix it. So I never got the Clevlands and probably never will. So it's my opinion that you buy the Z Satins. Very reliable wedges. But anything really would be reliable. Like I said it's just going to come down to taking the time to learn them. And once you do, don't be swayed to easily to switch to something else. Just because WGT puts something else out new doesn't necessarily mean it's better. I'm comfortable with all my clubs and I have a pretty good understanding of what they can and can't do.

Also I would think about using some better balls. I know Calloways are pretty expensive and if you have ruled them out then I would go with the Srixon balls. They aren't as good as Calloways, but they are a bit better then any WGT ball. Plus the price is right in the middle of Calloways and WGT balls. But if you can't use them then I would at least consider using the GI-SD balls. I think you could maximize the performance of your clubs with better balls. Hope this helps ya. Good luck to ya!

I didn't even have a fairway wood or hb until I made Legend. I had G10s until the i15s came out. The longest iron was still a ways away from the driver but from TM tees that is not a problem. Playing without a 3w or hb forces you to learn and use the irons you're going to have to use when you get to Legend.

I have been very happy with this setup and have had good results. TRUE, the g-10's let the ball run, but I play my shots accordingly and allow for the roll.

remember how icon held onto those raptures for the longest time? He was lethal with them.

Knowing exactly what your clubs can do and executing well is more important than having "better" clubs.

Before the elite collection, before MPC's were here, there was really nothing to do with your credits, so I had every club available in the pro shop at that time. After taking a long long break and coming back to this with all the changes and much much lower scores (due to better clubs and better balls of course) I find myself in a bit of a disadvantage in my efforts to build up my credit roll, buy all the new clubs, without dropping too much cash into the game. It's tough but I am enjoying it. I'm sure if I just dropped a bunch of money into this and bought the 2.0's, my scores would improve. But it's more fun for me to try and beat you guys with my K-mart cubs.. lol

Maybe if I can get past the 3rd round of the budget Hustle this time, I can get there :P

I've had the Cleveland wedges for about a month now.  The backspin is incredible.  For almost all of my wedge shots, I've learned not to use any backspin at all.  And they stop on a dime every time.  Before learning the Clevelands, I had a few wedge shots spin off the front of more than a few greens.

Thank you all for the incredibly well thought out and detailed replies, it has given me a lot to absorb and think over.

Birdwell:  I like the way you think and your dedication to bettering your already good game.. as far as balls go, I know I'm going to eventually go to playing the Srixon Z star XVs.  I usually keep some in my bag just for country club tournaments that I really want to do well in, using the WGT-XD or Tour SD balls most of the other games I play.  I think the Srixon are great balls considering their price and their durability is something else that leans me toward them as well, as that is just as good as the Callaway's.  I actually prefer the Tour SD balls most of the time over the Srixon because I use them more and switching to something slower messes up my ding finger. :)  I'm sure with time that could be corrected.

Someone also asked about flops from around the green.  The only time I ever really use the flop is when I've got a hill between the pin and my ball that leaves me with a long roll off if I hit a pitch.  Think SA 2? or is it 3?  2 I think..  Anyway.. I hole out shots a lot more with a pitch than any other shot.  While the flop has it's places in certain areas, I see a lot of players playing it far too often (at least  looking at the shot from the way I would play it).

I like the idea of playing 4 wedges (not counting the PW) but that guarantees that I'm going to have to go with the burners.  I have 2 more levels to go and I will unlock the 80 yrd Cleveland and I'm going to give it a practice run of a solid day of practicing with it to see if it's the way I wanna go or not.

I love the idea of playing the 3 highest Cleveland wedges and still being able to hold onto my beloved 64 degree Z satin.  I'm just personally not feeling the Ping wedges, but that may be due to not it enough time.

Again, I've read every post that all of you have made.. and I thank you!  I will be reading back through this thread when the time comes to make a decision.

ANYONE ELSE READING THIS FOR TIPS:  Rent clubs.. it's a lot cheaper in the long run to rent it and really give it a testing than to buy it and sell it after you realize it isn't for you.  << if there is anything I have learned, it's that.

In general I'd agree, but if I'd have just rented the Burners, I'd still be using my G10's.

It's taken me about 4 or 5 weeks to get a decent feel for the burners, and I'm still not here yet.

That said, they (Burners) have saved my butt in places the G10's could not.

Master Yoda - Respectfully, you may have to rethink going without a 3 wood once you make legend.  I also tried to run with 4 wedges and no 3 wood but once I made legend I found there are some par 5s where you will have no shot at eagle without a 3 wood and in the case of the par 5 #14 on SA, with a stiff head wind, you won't be able to make it to the second fairway approaching the green.  C

Compromise. Keep the 3W and the Satin64 and add the CG 80 and 100. The 115 will eventually not be needed if you go with Burners so save your money there (unless you want to go with 4.) You do not need the Burners to go with 4 wedges. They work just fine with the G10s and your meter speeds will be the same.

p.s., I trust you're sharing all this with Argy.  ;-)
