Is it worth the risk try to go over the lake with your second shot?.

Sure- depending on conditions and how far away you are from the pin.
If you make it your putting for eagle- always worth it IMO unless conditions prevent you from doing it.
I am usually apt 250 away from pin, and each time I got a wet ball:(.
What you are concerned about is carry as opposed to overall distance. If your 3 wd is rated at 250 yds generally that’s so many yards in the air and so many yards on the ground. Determine what your actually 3wd carry is from the fairway and use that distance to determine if you can reach any part of the green when you find yourself 250 yds from the pin.
Most of the time if I have a right to left wind I play the ball to the right side of the green, 99% of the time if you don't hit the green you will land close enough for a punched wedge of even a less than 18 yard pitch,
Thank You All.
