I found what appears to be a man watching the green behind Pinehurst #18

    EDIT:  Looks like they're statues

    18th hole - Pinehurst

SamSpayed, in his picture above, actually picked up 4 figures -

As Sam had already deduced, the figures are statutes (or sculptures).

The figures, from left to right, are Donald Ross (Golf Course Architect), Richard Tufts (Grandson of the founder of Pinehurst and eventual owner/manager), Robert Dedman, Sr (purchased Pinehurst out of Bankruptcy in 1994) and the iconic Payne Stewart in his famous victory stance).

This area is known as Pinehurst's "Walk of Fame"

WGT is pretty cool, in so many ways - IMO

That has to be one of the oddest posed statues I think I have ever seen!

No pose, it was the real deal!

Payne Stewart celebrates as his putt falls on the 18th hole to win the 1999 U.S. Open Championship at the Pinehurst No. 2 course. Stewart beat Phil Mickelson by one stroke. TRA/ME

It appears that it was photographed by so many, just about every angle was covered.

I think this one would have been more difficult to display..

Do not think anyone ever saw John Daly jump like that!!

EDIT: Just "google" - "Payne Stewart Victory Pose".

The "victory pose" was when he won the 1999 US Open at Pinehurst. A sad comment I read..

"What if I told you that four of the best golfers in the world would battle to the final hole at the U.S. Open on one of the country's most historic courses, with the game's most popular announcer calling the action, all while one of the key players was waiting to hear if he'd have to leave the course at any minute to be by his wife's side for the birth of their first child, and that in an unimaginably tragic turn, the winner wouldn't live to see the end of the year?"

Thanks Steff. Maybe I worded my response incorrectly. I am aware that the statue was modelled on a real life event. But I'm not sure it was the right way to go to honour the man.

What would be the right way, then?
