In principle I have to agree with Piz. I don't know that having different meter speeds is a valid criticism. As we know from RL golf, different types of clubs play differently (drivers vs. trouble woods vs. irons etc.) In WGT the wedges have tended to have faster meter speeds, they're just not 'matched' in the sense of having the same model name.

While it is probably good for your game in the short run to play clubs with the same speed, ultimately it is probably better to play by feel than by habit - in other words, developing the skill to hit the ding playing whatever club you happen to pick up at that moment.

Nonetheless, I would love to have irons with the same accuracy as the Burners, more forgiveness, more spin and also slower. And what the hey, maybe a lot cheaper too? But you can't have everything.

It is a disincentive for players with the Level 79 Burners to buy the new R11 irons when the meter speed is nominally the same. But with greater forgiveness and spin, who knows?

    I'm bummed.  :/

I've been using the G10's for a long time... and decided to wait thru the 2.0's because of their faster meter speed. I made an error in my assumption that the new R11's would match the woods' meter speeds, and am in a quandry.

You see... ever since dumping my SuperTri Driver (with a slightly faster meter) and purchasing the R11 Driver, all my clubs' meter speeds matched...

... AND all... A-L-L... LITERALLY "ALL"...of my glitchy meter problems went bye-byes.

There!    I've said it!    It's been months since I've had a meter stutter, and to tell you the truth, I've been reluctant to report it for fear that they would reappear... lol. No kiddin'. :/

Nowwww... I'm faced with not only the decision to tax my reflexes, but with the possibility of jeopardizing my stable, steady meter (?). Sure, it could have been coincidental, and something else may have cured my meter-blips... I've even gone on record as saying that using "Best" quality, flag animation, all the "goodies"... may have had a part in stabilizing my meter by putting a further "load" on my system's resources, but since "evening-out" my clubs' meter speeds, I haven't touched anything... I haven't even "switched-out" clubs for particular course differences... I'm afraid to...

    ... "if it ain't broke... ".  ;)

I guess I'll just have to rent the R11 iron set... (I've never rented before)... to give them and my meter a "temporary" go at it.

I don't wish to cause any further furor... and I hate even having to bring up meter glitches here... but as I see it, it is what it is... and I don't want what it was to be "what it was".

Worry about the reflexes, Pug, the meter will be OK. I have the same luxury as you with the meter so I don't think mixing the speeds will bother that. The occasional RPM is there but your bigger fish to fry is going to be adjusting to the difference. What might help is the added forgiveness of the R11s over the Burners. GL

The lvl 80 R9 driver, lvl 68  I15 3 wood and r11 irons all matchup if meter speed is your driving factor.  The R9 driver  and I15 3wood dont give up much to their r11 counterparts.

that is true as i have both the driver and 3 wood. I find myself dinging shots all the time and whats cool is that my irons have the same meter sped as the driver and hybrid. and my wedges r almost the same meter speed too.

Do note that the meter speed of the R11 driver, wood, and hybrid, may be slower on paper than the R11 irons, but with the Calloway balls, the speed difference is actually insignificant.

I have been doing some practice using the new lvl 90 R11 irons and have found that if these irons were in fact paired with the R11 Woods speed wise like advertised:

    Quote WGT

TaylorMade does it again with the top-performing set of irons on WGT. These irons give you maximum distance and control, and pair perfectly with the R11 Woods available at the same levels.

then players also using Calloway wedges would indeed have matching clubs throughout their full set as the wedges are very similar swing speed to the woods now.

This is a blatant case of false advertising on WGT's case and they should be prepared and willing to refund full purchase price to anyone (like myself) that trusted WGT's initial advert regarding matched pairing with the woods, and just purchased without looking at anything else?

Sorry, but you are mistaken. Read my above post, and accept the fact that the insignificant meter speed difference is in fact stated in the technical specs.

wgt did a superb job, and I strongly suggest you stop whining and learn to enjoy your upgrade.

I think there's some confusion going on here. The lower level R11 driver does match the lower level irons but when you buy them as a set you don't get this.

    Jim

I checked my clubs the R11 driver and R11 3w has the same speed, but the R11 Irons has a faster speed by one bracket.

    Am I missing something here?
