I almost always look at a putt from both sides. Sometimes when I switch to reverse view, the dots are going opposite direction than I expect. I'll have the aimer just outside the hole, then reverse view shows the aimer should be outside the hole, but opposite side. This seems to be happening more lately. It's quite baffling as I don't know which view to believe. It's never on a severe slope, just mild breakage. On tourney greens a down hill putt can be missed easily.

I searched here and found nothing. I don't think it's just me.  Is it?

No its not just you. Happens on a few holes for me. I tend to find the reverse view is the more accurate.

In Denmark, Chris and i we were debating about this thing for at least half an hour:

We agreed that we disagree and we left it there...everyone's happy!!

I used to do all of this stuff ^^^, and I'd promptly miss the putt. Then I decided to save time and frustration and just aim at the hole and hit it. I'd still miss. So, my putting is consistent  without any work or frustration..:)

    just sayin'

Thanks! So it really comes down to the age old problem. There are not enough camera angles to present all shots/putts properly. We should always have at least one realistic view as if we were our avatar, but that's not always the case. Forward, reverse, then use the arrows and look at 6 more views, and none of these are the view we desire nor the view we would see in real life. Reverse view should be an exact mirror image of normal view and it's obviously not.

Pretty sure most would prefer to read putts parallel with the grid lines. Much harder to read break when looking at "diamonds" instead of boxes.

It also comes down to learning all the greens. There was a hole on Cabo that the ball would often funnel to the same spot below the hole in a little gully sort of thing. Virtually everyone I know learned that the putt from there would break against the dots every time.

This could be chalked up to being glitches in the game, but I prefer to think of it as just one more nuance you need to learn to play your best.

The same is true on the PGA. It is rare to watch a tournament where you don't hear the announcer talking about how all players have had the same miss on a hole all day.

It is frustrating to say the least, but I like the challenge of learning the nuances of each course.

Yes, we adjust to the games flaws, aka; nuances because we have no choice. In a perfect world, we shouldn't need to compensate. We can always hope they eventually fix bugs. Probably why there's a whole topic dedicated to bugs and flaws and nuances in this forum. lol

Duphpherer, I think the fmagnets video that Simon posted gives a great explanation for why you are seeing the dots move differently from the forward and reverse views.

In addition to that, I've made it part of my putting routine to always click the 4-way arrow to look at the 'grain' of the putt (i.e. the north-south dot movements).  Often, and especially when you are looking at a putt from an offset view (where the grids form "diamonds" instead of boxes), you'll see the grain showing a slight break toward one side or the other.  When I see that, I take that break into consideration also when calculating my aim point, in addition to whatever east-west break I see.

Thanks Sam. Guess I mostly just "wing-it" when I'm putting. I don't think I have enough time to figure the grain and textures. I sometimes use the arrows on the left that surround the reverse view button to see if I can get better reads and sometimes I can, but not often. The arrows on the right...  I don't exactly what to make of them. In a game with no clock I could see experimenting. I'm not a horrible putter, but always looking to improve.
