So I guess I just don't get why the Showdowns have to be in coin rooms at all.

    I can't argue with that.

My idea was based on which option I thought would be easier.  My gut says that it would be less work to implement the bot than to switch the entire Showdown setup to single play tournaments.  My gut could be wrong.

The only explanation that I can think of for using the coin rooms is that we end up playing 3 or 6 different courses consisting of 3 holes each, rather than 9 or 18 holes on the same course.  I kind of like the variety.

A cynic might think that WGT simply wants to take their 20% cut of the coins.  Maybe ... but what do they do with all of these coins?  All it does it remove them from the total coin universe and probably hurts those Pros and Masters who we're matched against in the Veteran division a lot more than it hurts us.

I figured ... ok ... if they're bound and determined to use the coin rooms, then replacing the real opponents with a bot is a sensible solution because the bot would be unable to rage quit.

I agree that, in theory, assigning a bot to play against you (and DQ) in the Showdowns could work.  But you'd still be faced with the 45-sec / 2 TO's limits, as well as getting bogeys if you lose your connection (or WGT loses it for you) and you can't get back in time.

Plus, would you really trust WGT to write (and test) such a bot?  I mean, these are the same people that can't program and test a simple sort function, which as you know is CS 101.

Again, no argument here.  I'm just prioritizing a relatively quick solution that works better than what we have now over something that takes a long time to do and definitely works.  It's a trade-off.

Well, there IS the Infinite Monkey Theorem and people DO win lotteries.  What can I say?  Stuff happens.

I actually like the proposal from Babzilla33 that you quoted better:  Get rid of the H2H coin rooms and make the showdowns single play just like any other tournament.

I've had the dreaded quitter & triple bogey scorecard (it's been months), and hate it too.  But one of the reasons that I play the showdown is because I'm playing with others, I absolutely hate playing tournaments or anything by myself.  I'll play a Clash or two to participate with the CC, but even that I'm not a huge fan of.  Just a thought from a different point of view.

A definite result of the other player quitting . They quit after the second shot .

Sometimes I have had this happen pdb1  and I was pleasantly surprised when it did/does replaying the 3 holes at that point of a showdown is an acceptable "Glitch" !

Unfortunately though 8 out of 10 times it's the dreaded 3 bogey glitch...

At least Champ acknowledged there IS a problem ...that's something I suppose and I know if I take the time to message CS they would refund my entry fee (I didn't bother on last showdown as it was only 100 credits no expert division was available) But it's not the credits as much as 3 bogey's will ALWAYS knock a player out of qualifying hence the fun of the showdown is over lol
