Apologies to all, I have decided to cancel this tournament in order to concentrate on this winter's country club league.

I'm sorry to any of you who were anticipating this competition - I have left up the rules for reference.

Hi all, it's slor again. I'd like to try out a world cup tournament using the end-of-game challenge format. Teams will be formed based on geographical proximity (I will not ask for your exact address, and any location you give me will be protected and will be deleted as soon as practicable if you do not want it shared). You may even find out that there is another high-level WGTer in your town. So, here is the format:

Each team will be composed of three players. Players will be placed into teams based first on tier (Legend/Champ tees, Master/Hard tees, Pro/Medium tees, Amateur/Easy tees) then on physical proximity (e.g. a Boston team, a Liverpool team, etc. Some amalgamations will be necessary.). No substitutions are allowed after placement.

A match will be conducted as an end-of-game challenge. The draw for that round will nominate one team to pick a player to "go first" to initiate the challenge and invite the other players. Each match will be stroke play over 9 holes, with the strokes of the best two players counting towards each team's total strokes. If the total number of strokes are equal, the winner will be decided by WGT countback rules using the combined strokes of each team's best two players. Obviously, it is only necessary to post two scores in a match. If a team cannot post two scores and their opponent does, then their opponent wins the match.

The competition will be, as in the country club league last summer, conducted using the Swiss system. The number of rounds in each tier will be the minimum required (where 2 ^ rounds becomes greater than number of teams) plus an additional two rounds. For example, if there are 24 teams, 2^4 = 16 .... 2^5 = 32 ... so there will be 5+2=7 rounds. Ties will be broken by Buchholz score (the number of wins of your opponents with necessary additions should you have a bye or if you do not play your match for whatever reason). The initial ranking necessary to start the tournament will be made using the sum of the teams' WGT averages.

Each round will last for one week (Tuesday - Monday). The procedure is as follows:

    • The draw will be made on Tuesday at approximately 1100 GMT. The "white" team in the draw will initiate the challenge and designate a player to "friend" the other team and start off the challenge.
    • A full day will be given to complete the "friending" necessary to start the challenge.
    • After Wednesday at 1700 GMT, challenges can commence using the friends available to the players starting the challenge. Please stay within the spirit of golf and make an honest attempt to get all players into the challenge even if it takes a bit longer. This can be initiated via either a ranked or tournament round.
    • Please post scorecards on the forum by 1700 GMT on Monday.

Signups are here. Closing at 1700 GMT on Thursday 24 November.

Edited (location removed) current list of players signed up

Tournament begins Tuesday 29 November (or the Tuesday after the finish of the Ryder Cup, whichever is later).

Yep.  Sounds good to me.  And if it's anything like the CC League, it'll be a lot of fun.
