    ArchibaldBunker:

how are people averaging in the 60s and 50s?

is it simply the top equipment, or "cheats"?

I've been playing for 9 months now, and I would say it is a combination of equipment and practice.  I have observed that the higher Tier you become, the more important good equipment is.  Personally, I am willing to spend the $$ for the best equipment, which combined with A LOT of playing, has my scoring average down to 62.  On that note however, I have a friend who is Legend Tier, and she still uses a Starter putter and relatively cheap WGT balls.

As some others said in this thread, this is a SIMULATION, that has no real resemblance to real golf.  Consider this if you will: You ALWAYS know the EXACT wind speed and direction, you ALWAYS know the EXACT distance and elevation to the hole, and on the green you ALWAYS know the amount of drop or rise, none of which you would have playing a real course.

My  advice is... take this for what it is... a game, and just have fun.

No one has mentioned the basic math involved. To shoot a 53 over 18 holes you would have to average LESS than 3 strokes per hole...all holes...including par 5s. If it's being done it's being done with assistance that most players here don't get or will ever get. Cheating?...to each his own opinion.

you can get the "special" assistance, but you need to buy it.

there are other methods, than using a credit card, you can watch some videos or complete some surveys...

then you can buy some good clubs, and that is all you need, all the assistance you can get, at least that is the only I have.

    Cheers.

Which is it, "average," or "all holes?" Not the same thing. The "basic math" is that 53 on a par 70 course is 17 under par .... 17 birdies and a par; on a par 72 you'd need an eagle instead of the par. No trickery, just lots of fairways, greens and one-putts.

Low scores can be reached in real golf too...

and people don't have to cheat to shoot them, they just play well.

    From Golf Digest -

Rhein Gibson is 1,444th on the World Ranking, having missed three cuts and finished T-58 in two Nationwide Tour events and two Australian Tour events in 2010 and 2011. But when it comes to playing River Oaks GC in Edmond, Oklah., he's all-world.

Gibson set the course record of 60 earlier this month, then shattered that mark with a 16-under 55 on May 12 at the 6,850-yard venue. The 26-year-old Lismore, Australia, native is a 2008 graduate of Oklahoma Christian, where he was a NAIA All-American. He made 12 birdies, two eagles and four pars during his stellar round.

Gibson's round is believed to be one of the lowest recorded on a full-length (more than 6,000 yards) course. The only 55 recorded in tournament play was by Homero Blancas in the 1962 Premier Invitational in Longview, Texas.

You think 50's are low, wait till you see the scores posted in rd2 of the St Andrews Championship then lol.I  clicked on practice round just to see conditions and only played 1st hole...Red tees, this will be a case of how many top players score in the 40's.

The top players are just that because like ppl have already mentioned it's knowing how to play each shot and more importantly being very good putters a department i'm only average at best.Course knowledge is also a big factor as the top players know where to aim there shots to get the best results, not to mention 100's of hours of practice they also put in.

yeh some of these scores are so unrealistic something should be done about it. Also, putting needs to be looked at the putt doesn't even look like it goes in the direction you place the marker - at least start in that direction. I maybe a hack but what chance have you got with that kind of shot - I just start off and get so peeved I just pull the plug - not realistic. end of gripe.......

Yeah kind of hoping that the practice conditions are leading us on a wild goose chase; low winds, baby tees and standard greens.....if you don't shoot a 52 then you're out of the equation. Kind of seems completely against what WGT said they wanted which was realistic scoring for important tournaments....

I could be wrong but I think when you click on practice you don't practice the conditions of the next round. You just practice the default conditions you have here

    http://www.wgt.com/courses/

But I could be wrong. We will see (but I doubt to see red tee with standard green in such a championship. First round was already from master tee...).

Yeah, that wasn't the tournament conditions... even if they were, 40s is entirely different from 50s. 15 or 16 or 17 under par for 18 holes is one thing, but 23 under (49) requires 5 eagles... do-able, but not done (yet) at St. A -- only at Kiawah (where there are 4 par 5s compared to only 2 at St. A).
