CobraSEye:
I get fed up with this. On congressional, bethpage and oakmont the irons of r11 make a compleet foolish distance. When i hit the ball 1ith 14 wind against with the iron for 195 distance it goes to 215 distance. I hope WGT takes a look at this. It are the most expensive irons and they are not reliable..
SO PLEASE WGT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
Maybe not the most indicated person to give advice, but here is some...
Each course may play a bit differently.
The distance of the irons varies with each ball.
You have to add or subtract to the distance depending on elevation, plus the wind direction.
The more backspin a club has, adding backspin should take distance off. So, a ball like the Nike travels more distance but also has more spin, so moving the dot towards the button should give you less yards but maybe the same or more than Srixons or a free ball. If you don't use backspin, you have to adapt according to the ball you are using.
Each club has a different trajectory, in a club with a higher trajectory, the ball will be longer in the air, thus more wind effect on it, resulting in more or less distance and deviation from the intended target.
When approaching an elevated green, you may have to add some yards, adding backspin reduces the distance, plus the ball flight is interrupted before. The higher the elevation, the harder to stop it because the ball hits the green with a different angle. When the green is below the tee, for example, it drops like a bomb and rolls less...
If there is water, weeds or fescue, ... anywhere you could lose a ball, aim the other way, The appetite for balls is insatiable.
There is VEM too.
Don't believe anything I said above.
