Playing the February tournament that I qualified for.  Kiawah with Champ greens.. UGH.. Along with the usual assortment of lipouts and crap that I'm sure everyone else experienced, I get to the 17th hole and missed the ding by the slightest of margins.. not surprisingly, the ball reacted as if I'd shanked it... no biggie.. I have come to expect these things in WGT tourneys.. I'll just hit from the drop zone, right? WRONG!!  my next shot is from a bunker about 20 yards in front of the tee.. with weeds and crap all around.. I've already lost one Nike ball on the hole, and have NO IDEA where this will end up.. why can't I just hit from green grass?  I've played Kiawah a bazillion times, and I've never hit from this spot (180 to the green, in a bunker?).  Of course it's in a tournament.. of course it is... Thanks, WGT...

Yep, that's me, in the front right corner.. that's a bunker, apparently.. nothing good is going to happen if I attempt to hit this shot, so I'm cutting my losses...

But it's from hard sand.....not that bad of a shot ...really.

But not saying it wasn't unlucky.

If you've managed to play Kiawah a bazillion times and experienced that drop just the once, count yourself lucky!!!

i have played this game now for a few years and i got that drop for the first time last week.  What a joke.  A joke, similar in hilarity to number #11 at CCC when you plunk it in the water after bouncing left first and then get dropped on the right front corner of the lake...lol

You may be right, but the crappy view made it so I didn't have a good idea of what was directly in front of me... the wind wasn't my friend, either.

Yep, but the timing sucks...  I seem to experience these one-in-a-million shots in tournament play only ;)

Hard sand at Kiaway, or 15-20 bunkers at BPB can be played quite well... however.... you do lose some distance.  Not sure you could have cleared the water on that one.

I hit a shot in an alt shot game from a bunker at BPB (15-20) 174y in the air over a bunker by the green to 2y from the pin.  Just before I hit, my p says "Just try to get me in short grass and I'll get it close", which was followed by "Never mind".  Of course, I couldn't resist "Will that grass be short enough for ya?".

I got that same drop once in the almost 2 years I've been here.

Can you imagine a PGA tourney held at KIA and seeing a pro taking his drop in the sand?

Hell for that matter seeing anyone, including my wife who's never played golf in her life, taking a drop in the sand.

    ummm, yeah, didn't think so.
