    RUNWME:

    Hey Roger

Its a valid question.   I think its because the r11s and nikes are capable of executing shots the 2.0 and 35z balls arent.  Especially 25 plus ft uphill shots like  9 oakmont.  Now you can  birdie hole with front pin where as with 2.0 irons, id put it in bunker and go for par rather than risk bogey 3putt.

If they come out with G20 lvl 80 irons with similar dots as 2.0 plus a slower meter, I'd def be giving them a whirl.

    Don

Thks Don... very interesting. I have the R11's and use the nikes... still put put the ball in the bunker, on me 2nd shot on Oak 9th..front pin... I will try to go for hole, if I have the guts...lol. Don't like those 3/4 putt greens....lol

    Cheers

Totally agree. I expected WGT to bring in the G20s at some point, hopefully with such specs, but finally the form in which the G20s were released here does not seem to make them competitive with the Burners - is my guess.

With Burners and Callaways and full backspin, you can also stop the ball close to the hole. Since taking up that equipment combination, I no longer go for the bunker there.

Having a faster meter is the price we have to pay for having accurate clubs, and personaly i have to buy the Nike's just to slow meter down a bit, but introducing clubs as accurate as the burners/R11's but with a SLOWER METER will just make this game far too easy and we will get scores even more ridicilous than we're seeing now.  People complain about the cut line in tournaments allready (not me as i usualy qualify) but the cut line will move down to a even sillier score like 55.  High accuracy clubs with slow meter is going to make the game how it used to be when there was no legend tier and we all played from the DRIVER?WEDGE tee's.  The new legend tier was welcomed by most as it was new challenge.  Why not make game a touch HARDER not ridicilously easier!

Yes me too but a little bit myth-ed at the timing as i have only just got a new G10 driver and now have to sell back all of my existing clubs at a considerable lose and as a disabled person do not have a large disposable income having said all I will probably go ahead and get the new G20s and not tell the wife who I fear only bar none.

being in my 60s i am quite pleased that they have come out with with the new g20 irons, same as the g10s but a slower meter speed should help older players like me

Having a faster meter is the price we have to pay for the most accurate clubs, I do agree with that.

You and most of the top level guys handle the meter of R11s extremely well . Even if the g20 came out with similar attributes as 2.0 burners with a slower meter,  few top guys give up the spin forgiveness  and precision of r11s. I 'd  buy them, but doubfully would give up my r11s  either so wouldn't think scores would change dramatically if at all.

What I do think a set of irons like that would do is enable the older players, the ones who don't play everyday or the ones stuggling with meter on current top clubs to close the scoring gap on elite players. The best will still play the best, there was s a HUGE gap between the accuracy and spin of  highest level  48 raptures and the lvl 90r11s. The lvl 59 g20s have closed that gap somewhat and hopefully a lvl80 something g20s would fill in the gap a little more.

RUNWME, I believe you are absolutely correct. Even a L81 slow meter upgrade to the current G20 (which I am toying with delightedly - 28, second try on St And., back 9) would not convince top players of parting from their R11 clubs, which they handle superbly. Look at Suncity28's specs. Mind blowing! What would indeed happen is lesser players with slower reflexes would start scoring a bit better and closing the gap between them and the best.

I run the same combination of club and ball, and I'm not sure if I need to upgrade. 220 yards out and the Calloway S will stick like glue.  I'm not sure what it is about this combo, but it works very well.

I really don't want to be reading this thread, but hey ho, as I have just bought the R11's.

They are way better than the Burners 2 - 3 shots at least.

It is a bit like buying Hi-Fi equipment, the minute you take the plunge summat new and better comes out.
