Oops, sorry Icon, didn't see your reply.  I would then like to ask though, what database maintenance?  I mean, you (WGT) don't clear disabled accounts or clear activity histories, so what other database maintenance is there to do?

I don't know exact but databases are generally huge and require maintenance. Maybe it was defrag, maybe it was some kinda backup or 1 of the raid's needed rebuilt. I don't know and kinda not important to me what exact is being fixed 'cause I just want it working :P

Software databases such as MSAccess over time with usage with no data being added will get large and become fragmented.  Thus, imagine the usage this database gets with, tourneys, buying and selling of clubs, buying golfballs, keep track of your account history, et al.  This DB will become extremely large and fragmented as time passes.  SQL statements generate new tables within a database and after it has been used it gets deleted.  Thus to keep a DB working at peak performance they need to be defragged and compacted. This should be done on a regular basis.

I was thinking on a weekly basis, and to keep things fair, do it on a time zone rotation.  DB mtce, is automatic when initiated , and requires no user intervention.

The greater the fragmentation, the longer the operation takes.  Thus if it is done weekly, the down time will be minimized.

WOW, I take a nine hour nap and missed all of this!

Mio, clearly that earlier life long ban for life from this site has wossied you, you woosie.

You won't say it, so I will. Here goes.

"WGT database maintenance" is randomly done to stop and count the money".

They can not get an accurate account of all they're (just for you Mio, wrong tense, but so damn right) ill gotten bootie whilst all the multi accounting cheating bastards are still on line and or re-signing up again and again.

WGT's stance whilst this is going on is NOTHING.( Easy listing elevator music)

Screw infectious reason, Money. GET BACK! (Pink Floyd, Dark side of the moon).

Assume the head between your knees position. Lubricant may be applied at ones discretion.

    Have a nice day!

    Great to do this morning.

Woken by the sound of an excited Lambert trotting ( going tu lott! tu lott! tu lott! whilst shouting Geronimo! ) through the upstairs landings and presumably whipping an imaginary horse. It has to be imaginary because bizarrely real horses have been banned indoors following my re-make of the scene in Warhorse where two nags were hidden upstairs in a mill so the german soldiers couldn't find them. Whilst I am not fortunate enough to live in a real mill I did make the effort to recreate the scene by scattering self raising flour throughout which looked authentic enough to me, but then others of the philistinitic bent who would never appreciate art anyway, felt it was one step too far.

Unfortunately, due to the leaky overhead water pipes there was some mixing of my props which resulted in some of the flour becoming contaminated and to my delight, turning in to glue. My immediate thought at this discovery was one of joy at finding such a readily available agent so close to hand, and all without my current ban on such substances being affected.

    So well anyway, Lambert.

His galloping was to celebrate the arrival of snow out of doors which turned out to be rain anyway, silly man.

    Lizzie xx

So I assume Lizzie that you offered to help clean up some of the (much wanted as it may well come in handy in the future) 'glue'?  But I feel sorry for the poor bugger who will have to go around with the 1001 carpet cleaner and a broom like my mum used to.  Or will they be using something a little more modern like a Vax?

Despite the valiant effort by our prize-winning weathermen and women - prize-winning most likely being a wooden spoon, and probably many of them - there was a little less than their predicted 4 inches of snow here last night and overnight.  In fact there was zero inches of snow.  Maybe I too should go buy loads of flour and just chuck it onto the roads to make it look like snow.  And it will be very interesting to see what happens when it rains and how this will affect vehicles and how people drive, because, lets face it, in the UK we haven't a clue how to drive in 'adverse' conditions - anything above 1 inch of snow here is classed as adverse and cars are regularly abandoned in the forlorn attempts by their drivers to get to their destination.  So, if they struggle with a little snow, just think of the insane fun we can have watching them on the 'glue' mixture of flour and water.  Lizzie - does it have to be self-raising, or can it be plain?  And will any cheap brand do, or is maybe strong bread flour best?

It's done at 6pm our time and It's very annoying...lol and it went for a few hours.  I logged on at 5.55pm and just about to start a game when it went down. I had to look at the Facebook page to see what was going on...lol

Apart from the Database work, It might have been a good time to test out new things that they have in the pipeline...just thinking...lol
