abiturative: how come I got to 'Master' in the first place, and why were my rounds good enough to get me there and yet now I would struggle to compete at any level.
You got there because you were good enough. You were at the top of the Tour Pro class and deserved it. Now your tolerances are lessend and you have to adapt by getting even better. You could get clubs to help or do better with what you have. There's no question the equipment makes a difference but it's not impossible with what you have.
Come back and read your post 3 months from now or after the Opens happen. You'll laugh because you will probably be saying the same thing about being a Tour Master. LOL.
The game is pushing you, ab, and you're having to play better. As for being tight, I would say prudent instead. You get out of this game whatever you choose to and choosing not to spend $ is not a bad thing. :-)
