if I have a 60yrd shot with a strong tail wind, I'm in trouble. :-)

50yrd Satin with topspin. Amount of topspin depends on how strong the tailwind is.

I have the 100yd Clevo (lovely & easy to use), 77yd satin (good, although thinking of changing for the 80yd clevo) & 50yd satin (i would never get rid of this, it's my magic wand)

Can I ask what you do for shots around the 107-110 yrd mark?

I too was used to applying backspin on my wedges prior to getting the higher level CG's - on word for most players : DONT (or use very sparingly). For the 107-110 shot you describe, the 56 Cleve rated 100 full shots to 105 Nike/Callaway)- with topspin, it will go an average of 108. It is also, like all Clevelands, very accurate on partial shots - and unlike any other wedges on here rough is meaningless to these babys. Once you learn to pitch and chip with em, watch out. Since I got these my go to short sided shot is no longer the flop either. I had a hard time giving up my trusty Satin (64) but learn the CG 64 and you won't need it anymore, plus you won't have a gap if you get the CG 56, 60, and 64. The latter punches 50, and you can be very accurate on partial shots down to 50% (25 yards on punch). I just holed out a lovely partial punch on Kiawah back 9 par 5 from 36 yards. Same hole a few days ago, I back-spinned the 64 into the hole for another eagle.

Get em - learn em - its worth it!

For the last week or so I have been considering giving the CG's another try. (I tried and didn't like them too much before, but in all fairness, I don't think I gave them enough of a chance)

I had already commented above - but looking over your stats - the only place for you to go is to compete in the "Super Legend" league in the mid 50's, you are almost there now. Show me any one of them who does not carry the 3 CG top wedges (with a few exceptions re the Satin 64)? These are the most precise, but challenging to learn all the nuances, clubs on here. The Noob mistake is to use backspin carelessly and recklessly. You can and will spin the 60 and 64 from past the hole to off the front of the green if you just full backspin em. I use topspin regularly; backspin only partially and only with a great deal of thought - for example your 60 yard tailwind shot with the CG 64- I would use backspin judiciously to keep from going long. Or i might punch it and let it carry with the wind - just depends. Both situations you would be within 1-3 yards of hole or closer.

I moved to the CG 60/80/100 yd clubs as they became available to me (level 70+ versions) and never looked back. As noted above, what throws off folks new to the clubs is that in most cases no back-spin is is required to stop the ball dead. The one possible exception is with a very strong tail wind or landing on a steep green down-slope, and even in these cases all that's needed is 1 dot or less BS.

Both punch and full yardage are well-controlled and exact from 70% - 100% power. The 64 degree CG (60 yd) is also very precise for close-in chipping and flopping and, for all the CG wedge's chips and flops, these shot-types are almost the only time I use significant back-spin.

Thank You very much to everyone for your input and advice!

I decided to go with the 100 & 80 yrd, and so far so good, really enjoying them. It will obviously take some practice to learn how the various shots react to different conditions but I'm looking forward to it.

As Dazza said, I don't think I'd ever get rid of my 50 yrd satin, it has helped me out of a lot of trouble in the past. :-)

    Thanks again everyone.

Using full backspin on the 60/64 - for PITCHES can also be pretty cool - and very few people use it. Gets a wow in multi player games every time you execute it properly...from Legends on down. Very useful from awkward lies off the green - especially on Oakmont for example where short shots carom every which way - where you can literally hit, bounce, stop it, and have it spin with the break into or near the hole. I love an opportunity to play that one!

Here is a recent example of a full backspin 64 pitch in - for eagle

This is so true that the 64W pitch has become my go to shot inside 18 -19 yards down. The 80W (25 yds) picks up from there. The chips are very controllable too, especially the 64W @ 7 yards. Give them all a chance and you'll be a happy clam. Your Satin will play those shots great, too. :-)
