  But, what if a professional golfer was on the 72nd hole at Augusta studying a 20 ft putt from the fringe and his caddy said, "Hit it like a 150 ft putt." Don't you think he might look at him like he was crazy and make up his own mind?

  That's what we all must do here on every shot. Look at the caddy recommendation, study the wind, elevation, and slope, and decide the shot ourself.

  It's different here than on the real course. I know that my 150 foot meter the first movement is between 16 and 17 feet  so i use it on those length putts because with the shorter distance the meter moves it is easier to ding it. Many of us who use the avatar movement style of putting described by Nivlac/WGTniv in his excellent guide to putting distance control use many different scales. I never or rarely use a full scale for putting as using the full scale  on putts gives the meter too many opportunities to skip and it is harder to ding with the long meter travel. Using the highest possible scale gives the meter less time to skip and makes it easier to ding it as well. And always and i mean always check what scale you are on before you putt. Or for that matter always check and double check what club you are using before you play a shot. It is just too easy to accidentally change clubs or putting scales my moving the scroll wheel and not realizing it until it is too late. Many many months ago I hit my 64 degree wedge off the tee on # 2 @ Kia watching the meter so closely that i missed changing the club. Needless to say now I check and double check my club or putting scale every time.

  As far as I can tell, though, a caddy's job is just that:  to give you yardage and tell you about pin placement and breaks and such, which is exactly what they do here.  In my experience of golf, the caddy is never there to select your club for you...
