I would like to ask why we can't use irons on the greens? Because there are a few times that using an iron to chip or pitch or anything else to get to the hole. The perfect example is 17th hole at St. Andrews, there have been times when my shot stopped on the green with the bunker in between  the ball and hole, the option I have then is to putt the ball off the green so I can then use a wedge. if could use a wedge and pitch the ball over the bunker from the green would use one less shot. If you want this game to be more real you have to give us players the freedom to be more creative on the course.

Wedges on greens have been allowed for a long time.

Very true!....But because of a few players that didn't know how to control that wedge shot & use the spin to get the perfect shot, WGT staffers conceded to that bunch and took away the spin from the ball while it was on the green. The resulting shot is now a putt type shot with a faster meter (wedge shot speed).

Of all things to go after....sheesh!

Safari - the current shot without the spin control is much more realistic than leaving the spin control on. Even top PGA professionals aren't able to put a lot of spin on the ball when using wedges on the greens.

There are people on this game who have successfully mastered the wedges on the greens since the spin was taken off. I believe it's called trial & error combined with practice, practice and more practice.

Disagree. I watched countless u tube videos of pros on the green with a wedge..& yes, they apply spin distinctly!

Agree!...I have a listing of tried & proven distances to hit the NEW wedge shot on the green, however my putter is slower than my wedge & easier to ding. Therefore, with the NEW rules i use the putter a majority of the time.

First of all, I admire the gifted "bunch" who by way of 3 techniques(Practice, practice ...practice)...eventually mastered the skill (despite WGT staffers spin effect) of Wedge shots on the green surface.  Indeed, it is FUN and awesome to watch the highly skilled ones who demonstrate the shot in game play.....HOWEVER, while I agree that this is a virtual game and that the real-world applications, norms, rules may not necessarily be practical, the least honored... I wonder if , at all the "gifted bunch" can spare one specific scenario from being its showcase for their dexterity?

The CTTH Putting Challenge is one event that I sincerely hope can be be considered by WGT as the only type of event where all the other clubs except the Putter be rendered inutile by default so that all of us, the regular Joe's can walk up to play with the "gifted bunch" on the level.  On the two occasions( so far) where I've had been lucky enough to witness this learned skill from as co-player in the CTTH event, I politely requested after the first shot, if we could just revert to the appropriate club and gladly, one was a good sport but the other was like a cross-breed of a " Peacock and a Griffin's leaf-nosed bat"... I guess you can imagine his decorum throughout the 9 holes??  but surely he was very-skilled and that made me wish he'd do the same with his attitude....frankly, unworthy of the ":gifted bunch".

:-)  ..the short of all the above...just hoping for one thing .."Courtesy"....Long live the Courteous Gifted Bunch!!
