Hugh...Do you call your cable provider and complain about a 15 second television ad?,I think not,WGT does make revenue with these advertisements and I think we should all be thankful they do,can you imagine the increased cost of balls,clubs and tourneys if they (WGT) didn't have a few very brief ads from Lexus and other clients,,,think about it......
Dave, with all due respect, I have thought about it. You cannot compare an online interactive game with a TV advert, and for a number of reasons;
1. The cable provider has substantially greater overheads. It has to pay for a far larger work force, license agreements to air films/sports etc. Not to mention the infrastructure to be a viable cable provider
2. WGT is an online game, not a TV station. Once the R&D was completed, the game has only undergone maintenance tweaks. WGT will have a minute overhead when compared to a cable provider.
3. If you think the prices WGT already charge are reasonable then I would argue they are not. They still fail to accommodate the user's loss when Adobe's third party flash programme causes a glitch and the ball flies OOB's through no fault of the user. I believe the prices are 50% higher than what I would consider reasonable full stop
4. WGT already generate a nice little revenue stream through major golfing firms like Nike, Taylor Made, Srixon etc sponsoring the site, not to mention all the other collateral third party interests being represented. The bottom line is that they want to maximise their margins - fine, but don't introduce things which get in the way of the gameplay.
5. I would be fine with the occasional streaming advert here and there, but not the repetitive looping offerings they now seem to be providing.
Finally, I am the paying customer and like it or not, I have a right to complain about the product I am paying for if said product is not fulfilling my expectations.
NB - From what I have read, it seems adblock may be the answer
