being a Canadian I have the usual heroes - Terry Fox ,Billy Bishop etc but things have changed recently.I know tradegy strikes around the world but not at my home  - we all think that ! It's not the tradegy but it's the responders that count ! my Little Brother (younger) did 25 years in the Canadian military and was retired for a few year now - spent 10 of the last 14 days in Canmore and Calgary in an  effort to help others !! the selfless effort of those are what matters !! my point is history is yet to be built and is an ongoing journey. new heroes are born everyday ! who tought it would be their brother or sister ?

In my eyes there are heroes in all walks of like, most of them never get recognized unless tragedy strikes.

Some acts are easily noticed, others are not but to all of them we all owe out thanks and gratitude.

Many are the heroes who are never seen, never heard of, unrecognized soles who through out their lives, were kind, decent, helpful, consciences of their effect on others and situations, but persisted, often in the face of great adversity or distain.  Many times in harms way, and not to survive.

To all of those, my sincere thanks, and my good thoughts.  my nickle.

you know - today was garbage day here and I made it my mission to let these guys know that they were appreciated. we have three trucks that come every week to collect trash and recyclabels. i greeted each one of them with a pop today !! not  a life saving mission but one that goes un-noticed most of the time !! keep up the good work !!

As a Calgary resident, please pass along my thanks to your brother.  The last week and a half's been quite the nightmare around here, and it's folks like him that have helped get things back to a semblance of normal in such a relatively short period of time.  :-)

In my eyes also, alanti.         well said , my prayers are with the firefighter and their family,  and with all the people of southern Alberta .

That's very proper of you bypass07!
I am gonna try to do the same thing -- its just that our guys show up between 6/7 am for recycling and the yard debris and whatnot. However, the trash guys come around noon.
Going to store for mass-bulk purchase of Powerade/Gatorades - do me best to catch them - got my USBdongle cams aimed down the street, so I should be a success. When I was a boy and whatnot -- the trucks had 2 guys sittng on back end and they had to hop off an hand empty the cans. Me Pappy would get a case of beer every Christmas season and I remember how fun it was to be the one who got to gift it to the guys/truck!

Today the trucks got them fancy hydraulical arms and just one driver -- but I am sure he would love a chilly Gatorade.

    THX for the idea

    Hello - this is Yancy.
I went to the general store & whatnot right after posting the above. Had to maintain a wait for it for about an hour -- but with a successful result!

My trash guy was very happy when I waved him to stop and handed him a Gatorade on this HOT pre-holiday Oregon day!

    Sincerely, I am Yancy

I just stepped out for some air and whatnot and saw the mail-jeep coming my way, now I had to scramble hard but was able to just catch him and hand him a Gatorade and got a big grin from him!

Thanks again for the idear Bypass07! -- My name is Yancy
