  Take a look at some of the CTTH scores and you will see what Jim means.  If you are allowed to hit the same shot 25 times then you get better and better at it.  There are CTTH scores that are amazing based on that.

  The place for being able to practice shots like you talked about is the driving range.

  I find the argument that this type of practice will allow players to get "too good" to be uncompelling (to put it kindly). Practice makes perfect, that's a fact. Pros do this type of practicing all the time to improve their games. The fact that some players here will be better (perhaps much better) than many to most of the other players is the reason their are different tiers and levels.
