OK, I see that since i posted the above pic showing the ball clearly over the edge of the hole all previous commenters have remained silent - that's unusual, judging by the amount of posts you guys have clocked up is not like ye to be silent, maybe i shouldn't have said rant over

    Yo!

The photos WGT uses to show us the course cannot exactly match what the programming calculates as the position of the ball relative to the course.

What counts is the ball position as calculated by the programming.

So sometimes what looks in - isn't. That's why sometimes the ball looks to be in the rough but the game says the ball is in the fairway. Or the ball is in the sand but looks to be in the rough.

In this case I think the drawing of the hole and or ball is an error in WGT's code when it calculates the scale (size) of the cup.  WGT draws avatars, balls, cups, pins in perspective.  (Objects farther away appear smaller.)  They must calculate the size of objects based on distance to the camera.  They have precise GPS of both the pin location and the ball position, yet they show ball over the hole and it didn't drop. So the hole is drawn too big or the ball is drawn too small or both!

I'd say the vast majority of the time it doesn't matter or they get it right.  This IMO is a whole different ballgame than ball appears in fairway but game says its in rough.  No way they can record the precise GPS location of every edge of every bunker/fairway/fringe on every hole.  Probably done graphically using an overhead view of the hole.  So those edges are close but still approximate.

If you guys think that's bad, I've actually had the program tell me I've hit a water hazard (lost a ball) at the same time that the graphics show a splash on the green surface.

ok so to sum up my original point was , although i may have expressed it badly.

    Three thinks affect this situation

1 - What I think happened ie my judgement of whether the shot should have gone in ( i think it should have). This is based on merely 950 rounds or over 16,000 puts. In these 16,000 putts i have as has everyone left my fair share come up short. So i am certain now when I have given a putt enough "umph" especially a short putt

2 - What the graphic illustrates ie that the ball went in

3 - What the game records ie that the putt was short.

So two out of three indicators show that the putt went in, therefore the only logical conclusion (to me) is that there is a flaw in the game.

Ok, Ok - I hear ye all saying sour grapes - but if I am right and found this little bug shouldnt it be considered worthwhile fixing to help improve the game ??

    Define "improvement".

    - concerning fairness (is that of any importance?)

    - concerning business (most revenue with least "improvement" costs)

Where is th right position in this game?

well as a punter, player, customer (forget the its free crap) I would define improvement as the game as making it better to play. Now I dont mean easier.

Firstly repair known faults, bugs, issues. Fairness is immaterial as we all play the same game, warts and all so fairness is not an issue really, except for double account stuff - different issue.

Re business, Im a player, WGTs busines costs, revenue, profit margin etc are matters for wgt. However I am concerned that if they have a game thats creaking with problems and they leave it too late to resolve then they will be overtaken by the next best upcoming game and I will have no one left to play with here.

For all I know wgt have a new game on the horizon themselves !

This is a game I enjoy and find frustrating in equal measures. My knowledge of programming is practically non existent - however as a business owner myself I know a thing or two about the nature of customers and customer loyalty is a fickle thing.

So when a gamer plays a game that doesn't really work properly then he will only spend so long investing time and effort in that game before moving on. - there are many who suggest that has already started to happen with wgt. So I say, wgt fix the problems or fairness or revenue will no longer be issues but rather survival of the game itself.
