LOL Paul.....after how many putts? The read on those putts would have rivaled those of Kiawah on WGT!

And I agree, it is possible to play 18 in under 2 hours.........however I have played a few courses that took over 5 1/2 hours.........not a Marshall in site.

I was invited by a friend some years ago to play in their clubs Sunday comp.......short course and a ton of waiting......5 hours or so I will not get back.

I received a Bogey on Par5 #18, with two honest putts. The green hides behind a lake, so you have to be careful with the approach in the dark ;)

It's Las Colinas GCC in Orihuela Costa, Alicante - not a cheap course but worth the 92 € (regular price). Splendid course, magnificent views in the daytime.

Sunset at 6:41 pm - no wonder that they let you go so cheap after 3 pm for a fraction of a round ;) Still a good price w/ cart though.

Over here, some courses started "Crazy Tuesday" or "Crazy Monday" this year - you only pay your HCP in Euros for a round, walking. Cheap deal for single handicappers ;)

Some courses are lit. The par 3 course i mentioned earlier in the thread has lights installed. Notice I said installed. The state of Kentucky spent quite of bit of money in the mid 1990's  installing the lights  when it was part of the state park system and never used them. 2 years ago the state gave the park to the city and even though the city park system claimed that they would use the lights to get more revenue from play after dark they still haven't used them. What a waste!

A friend and I spend Saturdays in the summer playing out in the Palm Springs area. Booking online we can sometimes get on Cathedral Canyon for $9.50 including riding cart.

We get on various courses for $13.50 to $25 and all of them include riding cart and an ice chest. For example, we can almost always walk on to Palm Desert Resort Country club without a tee time for $19. Desert Dunes (where the Canadian Tour plays in the fall) is a great course and they often have tee times online for $20-25. Other courses like Tahquitz Creek are in the $15 range.

We usually have the courses to ourselves because very few people venture out there in the summer heat.

That Cimarron Boulder course is one of my favorites but it gets blistering hot. It's situated in a lizard protection area so there's a lot bright white sand between fairways and very little in the way of shade. Course is always in good shape and a good challenge. It's not crowded to play; the locals mostly play the executive Pebble course there.

Tahquitz Creek is definitely a winner out there, too.

We've often looked at the Indian Palms listings but for some reason we haven't gone to that one yet. Maybe next summer.

Our favorite course is Escena. A little more expensive but they do have the occasional tee time special that goes low. It's a very good Nicklaus design and the hospitality at the course is tremendous.

Man, you guys in the US and UK have life good when it comes to golf courses.  I have one 54km away at Hanh airport, an old US air base, where 9 holes mid week will set me back €20, 18 holes is €40.

I can also travel a "mere" 40km but then pay €45 for 9 holes mid week, €60 if I want to play 18 holes.

There are a couple of others around the same distance away but nowhere have I found what I'd consider a bargain golf course.  My impression is that golf in Germany is still viewed the same way golf was viewed in the UK 30 years ago.  A sport very much not for everyone, only those with very deep pockets.  Maybe this will change some time, I can only hope it's soon.

I guess I got spoiled in the UK, having lived a 3 minute drive one that charged 180 quid for a years membership.  Only 9 holes but I could play every day if I wanted.

It's a different game on the continent than in Britain, see the inauguration of the Marienbad golf course (now Czech Republic) in 1905 by King Edward VII as a proper example.

Here in Germany, it has been limited to an elite of 70,000 (players related to members of the national golfing union) before 1980, eager to create (social and monetary) walls between them and "the croud". Then, Bernhard Langer, a former caddie from Augsburg, caused more interest by his double Masters win, and now they/we are 600,000 members, mush less exclusive. But still, union membership is indispensable to play the game.

The change has arrived (mostly), but some haven't accepted it yet. The prices show that.

And, it looks as if the game has passed it's vertex - the first golf courses are subject to closing now (first victim in my vincinity in 2015).

Apart from our world class golf courses, We have a little gem here in Melbourne Australia,   I should say just outside of Melbourne.

Cerberus Navel base has a 9 hole course with different Tees if you decide to play 18 holes.

I recommend it to everybody down here.

I will try that one if I am down that way.

Also just a short drive from Melbourne ....errrrmmm well 7 and 1/2 hors away, anyone going through Berri (SA) should try the Berri Golf Club. About AU$30 and the course is irrigated using orange water from the orchards.

Pretty good course for a country town, the smell is divine.
