andyson:I hope you normally pull the pin Hazen? Nice shot!
I tend to pull the pin, but not often enough. More so when it's a round that isn't just goofing around.
andyson:If I understand correctly that you ignore head wind below 10 mph with that ball and club combo, if the head wind had been only 5 mph wouldn't your shot have ended 3 or 4 yards more past the pin?
Regarding the 10 mph wind part, I just don't add any extra distance to my shot for wind 10 mph or less. If it's, let's say 15mph, then I'll account for the 5 mph in my shot. In the replay I posted, had it been 0mph wind, I'd expect my 180 with no spin to go 188'ish with the Nike ball.
Think about it this way, what will your club/ball combo do with no wind no spin and a dinged shot? That there is what the club's rated distance should be. I think a lot of the time, people will go by the clubs rated distance without considering the extra distance they get from the ball they use. If my 180 club goes 188 with little to now wind and no spin, I can't judge my shot based on WGT's listed distance for each club.
It's not a for sure thing, but it's my way of thinking here. I also think of the extra distance from a better ball when accounting for uphill elevation. That seems to be a little more finicky though.
*edit
180 no spin dinged with 6-8mph at about 5:30 on the clock only carried about 174 with L71 ball. After a bunch of mulligans, the furthest it would carry was 176. Weird, maybe the straight on head wind helps keep the ball in the air just a bit longer???
That just might toss my theory out the window lol.
