I would like some SERIOUS opinions please.

169 yards into 8mph wind & downhill 12 yards. I added 6 yards for the wind, and subtracted 3 yards for downhill for a calculation of playing the shot 171 yards.  How many yards would you play and why?

Nominally 170yds, so 175 with full bs.

170 yards also ( and I presume you meant 12ft downhill not 12 yards), and the reason, because that's what my formula came up with.

Since I play in an alternate universe where normal golf rules don't apply, (lol), here are my figures:

    - the 12 "feet" in elevation change equates to 4 yards, give or take. Take off 4 yards.

    - 8 mph wind in your face with any amount of backspin means something.  Negligible (at   best) with my shot.

So you now have a 165 yard shot with basically wind a non-factor.  Why?  Full topspin. Full topspin will negate the wind as it heads into it.   When it lands, one would expect the ball to advance itself on the ground because of the topspin.  Instead, it digs in and surprisingly, stops rather suddenly. Equations / math etc.  become much simpler.

Parameters abound.  But, you figure them out.  I've done the hard part for ya. Let me know how it works for you.

    - K (T)

    :)

6 iron almost full bs for 172 yards? full spin would drop 170.

If you really ment yards not feet, then 164.

then plus/minus how the green rolls

    I'm getting a little more.

8 mph wind (assuming dead straight headwind 180 degrees) adds 4% to the required distance

    so + 6.8 yds

-12 feet elevation takes off 0.24 yds per foot at that distance

    so - 2.9 yds

leaves 172.9 yds as the effective distance

for me that is 6i full bs.

of course - this ignores the green slope which can completely change where you want to land. My solution assumes a flat green with normal roll/stop characteristics.
