    zagraniczniak:

Carnoustie last hosted the Open in 2007. It should come up again in the rotation, and when it does, if WGT is around and we are around, we should get a chance to play the course then.

It could be a while Zag.  I looked on Google and there are currently 9 courses in the rotation.  But that's not all.  The host alternates between Scotland and England each year.  And St Andrews is the host every 5th year (2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, etc).  Carnoustie last held it in 2007 and before that 1999 (the infamous Jean Van de Velde collapse on the last hole), so I reckon it could be 2017 before it is held there again.

And here's a revisit of Jean Van de Velde's nightmare followed by a really cool video he made just 5 months later back at the scene of the crime on the 18th hole of Carnoustie.

Hi guys while we are talking courses in Scotland how about giving the West Coast a chance by including Royal Troon or Turnberry

Again both links courses but with some memorable holes.

    i.e The Postage Stamp.

I think it is hole 7 or 8 at Royal Troon being only 113 yards long.

Now what about Loch Lomond now there is one scenic course.

It would be great to play it here on WGT without those damn Midges biting. LOL !!!!!

    Dream on Bjorn !!!!!

Both of those courses are on The Open rota, so if all goes well we may see them within a few years.

I had always had the goal of breaking 80 from the tips at Carnoustie and almost did it on my first try.  After a few more failures, I played there back in 2004 in 30 mph winds and a slight rain.  After a crisp 48 on the front and the winds picking up my goal was quickly to break 100.

I hacked it around on the back and holed out on #17 for eagle.  This made me only need to make a 9 to break 100 for the 18.  After a number of adventures, I found myself in the greenside trap with a tight pin (same as Van de Velde) needing to get up and down for a 9 and a 99 on the day.  I slashed out a decent shot from the wet sand and left myself about 8 feet which I drained for my 99, only 20 strokes from my original goal but right on my revised one.

If you love golf this course and Turnberry are the can't miss courses.  St Andrews is history but expensive, average conditions and the rudeness is not seen elsewhere in Scotland.

Thanks, bear, I hadn't seen it before. What a sense of humor he had to have to go there and do that. You cannot help but laugh with him. And the music written and recorded just for the the vid accompanying the dialogue is even funnier. I think  I read where Jean VdV is pretty much retired now doing golf commentating for the Beeb periodically or somesuch.

I used to live in Carnoustie, but left there in 1985 when I was twenty.  At 17yrs old I was playing off of 9, not brilliant, but not too bad.  Most of my mates were off of about 5 or 6 so i was the lame duck.  One day though, I was standing on the 17th tee at one under par.  A bad tee shot left me in deep rough short of the burn on the right.  I could only hack out and eventually took a six on 17.  Last hole I hit a good drive down the middle and hit a solid 5 iron deep to the back of the green.  As it was in the summer and we were playing after school, the light was fading badly.  I just could not read the putt I had on the 18th.  Needless to say, I hit it woefully short and three putted for five.  Nevertheless, it was the best round of my life and between my friends at the time.  It is a great course, and no one should live in awe of its reputation.  I proved that, a mere hacker in golfing terms.  Anyone who comes to visit Scotland should play Carnoustie, it is such a beautiful course.  I used to cadddy in the summer when I was at school, and old the older ones used to tell the visiting golfers that Tom Watson never got a par when he won the Open in '75 on the par 3 16th.  If any one did par the 16th, they used to say, "your'e better than Tom Watson".  Us younger ones at the time used to laugh because we knew this was always going to be said.  If we parred the 16th we would never say we were better than Tom Watson because we never parred or birdied any of the other 17 holes on the course.lol.
