Useful post, I will consider this on my next plays, and see what (positive!) effects it'll have on my play and scoring. Thanks!

I agree, Bma. I am a "feel" game player. I just eyeball the shot and conditions, make a selection and fire away. My expectations are not to be an award winner but merely to enjoy playing the game. Just the same as my real world golf game. Good enough for a real world 9 hdcp but I'll never make the Seniors Tour.

I do appreciate the time and the effort of people like the OP who offer up their more technical explanations on how to lower scores. Some people are feel players, some people are technical players. To each his own. There's room in this game (and the world, for that matter) for both.

and honestly, it starts off technical (especially after seeing the screen-caps and the calculations) but it's 2nd nature for me now.  i don't "exactly" line it up anymore, it's more like "OK, i'll move it here, this should be about half way, a little more.........ahhh, that's good enough."

anyone who has played an AS game with me can attest that i'm a pretty fast player.  at the end of the day, you just want to be aimed in the right "ballpark" and this is my best way to do it.  when you've got a 28mph crosswind at St. Andrews, it's pretty cool watching your ball start out way off the green, then come back and settle in dead on the flag-stick like some kind of heat-seeking missile.

i've only seen it once, and it was a while ago, and i stole it from that point on :)

i just noticed a rash of threads dealing with wind, and i thought describing/diagraming it might help people with their judgement and have more fun shooting low scores.

look at the wind, figure how much is side-to-side.  drag the aiming triangle accordingly.  figure distance, knock off a few yards based on wind, pick club, shoot.  it's faster for me to do that than it is for me to say "i think this is far enough over.......no wait, maybe a little more.  a little more.  a little more.  WAIT, TOO FAR."

Tried this method on a practice nine at RSG, with heavy wind conditions.  My approach shots in heavy winds usually leaves me with average of 20 plus feet to the pin.  This nine my average was 12 feet.  This will seem to a better way to gauge winds than my method of "Aw crap hope it finds the green".  On the dead straight winds of 20- 30 mph from 3 and 9 o'clock it seems I never did allow enough aiming offset.  Anyway, thanks for the post about a quicker and more reliable, for me, wind allowance method.

no problem man, glad it could help

i think what helped me is it takes some of the guesswork out.  once you have a (somewhat) reliable way to measure, and you know the tool (blue box) stays consistent round after round, you can really hone in your wind-game.  to me it's not much different than using avatar movements to judge putts.  i know the 1st av movement on my daytona putter 30' scale gives me 6 feet.  does it every time.   keep practicing and you'll learn your clubs better, too.  how wedges react differently than irons/drivers/etc.  punch shots, back-spin, top spin.  there's still a lot to learn, but i think this gives a good baseline to work from.

oh yeah, and don't forget to ding.

    nice post matey

but with these kind of shots and NOT moving the flag arc line so much just use the meter on the left and right sidesMoving picture bouncing down pointing finger animated gif

    EXAMPLE

I                                        I          I              I  right blue arrow back and forth side to sideright blue arrow back and forth side to side  I            I AND WOULD BEEN HIT THE ACTUAL 75 HIT DISTANCE with 1/4 backspin

Yellow LED dots on up animated arrow

sorry, i've never been an intentional mis-hitter.  to me that's like Caddyshack 2 where Jack Hartouian has the world's worst slice, so they just line him up in the opposite direction so his ball will play.  i guess there's something to be said for "knowing your game" but i'd rather hit it straight if i can help it.

What do you do for long iron shots?

Do your calculations work when zooming into the green or do you have to be setup at the bal?

I find that cursor moves all over the place from way to short to way to long fiddling around with it at the ball setup.
