No new tiers, for heaven's sake.    All the madness with everyone scrambling to get upgraded in tier, or (conversely) accusing others of sandbagging, would start all over again.

The current tiers are OK, I just hope the Back 9 of St. Andrews, as well as all future courses, will be challenging and not too easy to play on. The additions of side/up- and downhill lies might help in this regard.

Instead of saying no new tiers, how about this: qualifying tournaments, open to masters only.

The top players in this monthly tourney are moved to Legends status. Once qualified, you can't enter anymore qualifying tourney's and once you make Legend status, your stuck there.

Adding more tee's to St Andrews would help in this regard as well as tournament green speeds.

IMHO...just saying no to new ideas without thinking about the positives as to what would work, breaks my heart..lol

No problems about the new tier. No or minimal exclusive legends equipment please!! It was the exclusive equipments appeal that made me want to climb the ladder as fast as possible.

    Complete foolishness.

The "Legend" tier is badly needed.  For those who can carry a sub 60 average need the rarified air of their own playground.  Their own tournaments and competitions.

The average Master will never be able to compete with the folks who own the course records and usually post in the mid to high 20's.

The current set up, to the Master ranking is fine... but there needs to be one more step up.

I listed my top 25 here.

http://www.wgt.com/forums/t/8674.aspx    (may have to copy & paste link)

Note that I have been updating this list as a 'running wishlist' whenever good ideas get mentioned in the forums and I catch them, this is a collective list from all players and I went as far back as I could get.

See the first two posts, quite a massive list now!

    ----------------

Yes a new tier of course, its the same 20 people at the top of the leaderboards all the time, and they earned those spots of course but everyone else might as well go fishing. If a person ever manages to  "catch up" to these guys then they will get bumped up as well but in the meantime, the other 99% of Masters want somewhere to compete with each other.

danohi your post is confusing as at first glance.  You have your ideas bulleted under Coming Soon.  At first I thought they were part of the Roadmap and I got excited. ;)

A Legends division could do more harm then good unless properly implemented.  Otherwise its mostly worthless as at some point every Master will shoot a 29, 28, or 27 and put their average below 62.  The only people it would favor would be the brand new Masters who struggle initially or ones that don't really belong their in the first place.  Any Master who's been so for longer than a month should qualify for Legend, even if for a brief moment.  You shouldn't reward Master players that underperform you should reward the average Master player, which I believe is around a 63-64 average player.

I don't know what the cut-off should be.  Maybe 60 maybe 61.  But it is something that needs to be thought of before implementing as you don't want to alienate the bulk of your better players.

Perhaps taking a cue from the fluctuating Pro/Master line.... the top 5% of Masters would get their own tier.

We defiantly don't want sandbagging again, Qualifying tourn. Could be the answer.

As long as SA is as easy as it is there will still be players in tiers they don't belong in. It looks to me like a large number of new masters got there because of SA. Bringing the back nine isn't going to make it any harder because a lot of the greens are shared there and you will only be going in a different direction. It's still flat. Oakmont, however, should make it clear who belongs where if it's anything like it's supposed to be so I would much prefer Oakmont to the back 9 of SA.

I would hope that new tiers wouldn't enter the equation until all aspects of the real game are implemented, specifically lie factoring. I would be willing to bet that half the people carding low 60s now would skyrocket to the 70s, or high 60s at least, when they have to know what to do with a sidehill, uphill or downhill lie. The real golfers will get it fairly quickly while the gamers will be screaming deviation. Then we can see who knows how to golf.

In the interim, ideas like RGs for anybody that hasn't cashed or earnings based seeding in tier specific tourneys would allow a little more diversity until the Elite tier shows up (IMO you have to be dead to be a legend.)
