Not with the L59 G20's you didn't!!  The L59's get SHORTER with backspin... the L83's get LONGER with backspin.  Needless to say that makes a HUGE difference.

Every club gets shorter when you add backspin. Your saying clubs go a greater distance with backspin applied?

Most definitely. Back spin causes carry and in the right conditions will add quite a bit of distance. Mishits tend to really fly. The wind has a lot to do with what spin on a ball does to distance.

Short clubs gets shorter, but longer irons and the driver often get longer, depending on wind. It is things like this that make me really wish there was a driving range.

Try beating 66 on Olympic from legend tees with Calli balls... won't happen.

It certainly will if you make the shots. The ball isn't go to do it for you.

58 and i use the i(s), who needs the extra distance?

With wind of course backspin helps it hold up in the air. I got the impression TSK was saying if you add BS the G20's go longer than posted distance. Theres no way if you hit the 215 3i with no wind and full bs it goes 215. Your going to lose yardage from the gained elevation of the flight path.

I think we are just looking at it differently YJ. With tailwind yes you can add yardage to any club.

That's what "in the right conditions" means.  :-)

It helps to understand the affect winds has on shots if you just generalize, to start. Know that with a helping wind, back spin is going to help the carry. In head winds it will tend to stand the shot up and shorten it. It will always increase the deviation of a missed hit but not always like you would expect. The ball spins in the direction of the wind when it lands.

Get in the right frame of mind and then apply your corrections. A little goes a long way when when you take advantage of all winds.  ;-)

So I was just telling him that on the harder courses you need both distance and trajectory to score well... hence why I am using the Nike's right now on Olympic... till I qualify... I will eventually be the lowest level player to qualify.  :-)  My best is 62 on full 18 but shot a 30 (-6) on the back MP stroked play yesterday.  If anyone else has done it with a 275 driver and L59 G20's... you got mad skills!!!

Had to sink the 30 footer to qualify!!!

i use thr l59 g20's at the moment .. yeah i've noticed, specially with 3i, that carry is lot longer with b/spin even if wind is only fractionally from behind .. but i've only found this to be so with shots over 200yds .. 180-190yds using 4i not so pronounced as 3i

sure glad these threads from the more experienced are here .. validates what i've been thinkin'
