  Bigdaddy1,  It's a game and plays fair and square to every player who clicks the Q button. How is it not fair to you? I'll make a phone call and see if I can get you in on a sponsors exemption. Oops I can't do that, wouldn't be fair for everyone else! Accept the fact that you won't make it and have fun with your buddies.

  To shoot a 57 on Oly or even better 56, just like Mb said before.. if you don't make the first  few birds, restart... keep on restarting until you have that 57/56. Everybody does it, it's the way of doing things.. unless you one of the lucky ones and shoot the low score 1st pop...lol

  The secret is also to take notes for every shot you take, so the next time you know what you did wrong if it comes around again...

  ...and yes it is a headache, but if you want to qualify... this is what you need to do :)

  Problem is, WGT has their own rules for tournaments. How would it work out if all the Pro's got to shoot unlimited times before Sunday, just to make the top 10?

  Would not be be much of chance for those that shoot well under the first rounds, would it?

  Playing unlimited rounds would not allow them to get any rest between weekly tournaments would it. And only the best could continue to improve their scores.

  Single play is the only way to make ANY tournament fair to all players.

  Good Idea, but I don't think that will happen

  Maybe open the course up for a few weeks for practice, then have a 3 round single play, with different conditions on each round to qualify and the top 200 or whatever it is goes into the Final.

  Actually you are looking at this the wrong way. Rory Mac missed the cut in a tournament last week, so went off to Olympic to play 3 practice rounds. He will probably play 3 practice rounds this week as well.

  So he will play 6 practice rounds. He doesn't have to qualify because of previous performances/world rankings.

  We don't have world rankings, and if we did, a lot of people who are moaning about qualifying still wouldn't qualify.

  And most importantly, this is only a game. If you want to qualify, you need to have good clubs and a steady meter, and above all else you need to play the course againa and again and again ... etc

  Mind you all the above is easy to say when you are tied 5th.

  The white cap looks nice, and will look nice on my head to match my grey highlights

  Jez all I was doing was pointing out that WGT had got some of their numbers wrong and I didn't want anyone to be labouring under some mis-comprehension about the qualifying scores.

  Yes it is up to 170 people on 57 or below now

  Qualifying for the US open by shooting a 57,58 or 59 is realistic? Was there one guy who shot 59 in qualifying for a US Open this year, let alone 200. Was the cut line even close to a 59 in qualifying at any of the sites?  Or was it 10 strokes higher on basically every site. 

  If your going to use the term "realistic", at least understand what the word means. 

   

  Just add 10 strokes to everyone's score.

  The cut line will be 67.

  Wait the same (roughly) 200 players will still be at or below the cut.

  Do you honestly think if the course/conditions etc were harder that resulted in the cut line being 67 instead of 57, every one else would have a better chance?

   

  Of course it would be...the difference between making easy birdies and hard pars is immense. 

  I think that is the point...I didnt come here to debate the merits of the top 200 players...as I said, they are clearly light years ahead of the majority who play this game and have earned the right to be showcased.

  My point was that it is not realistic in terms of a US Open setup...the speed/firmness of the  greens and the thickness of rough are what makes the challenge unique, and it just does not shine through in virtual world.

   

  If they made the conditions harder for the qualifier, I would guess 90% of the players who are qualified now would qualify then. And people would still gripe.

  It's not realistic in the terms of a US Open setup.....  It's not the US Open. It's a qualifier to get into the US Open. Does the USGA hold all the qualifiers at Olympic? No. Will the course here be completely different come tournament time? Yes. Will the course here be a SINGLE PLAY tournament? Yes. You are not comparing apples to apples.

  IMO, the only way people are going to stop whining (yeah right) is to limit the number of rounds you have to qualify. I've never agreed with unlimited qualifying. I personally think that is how you get the best of the best competing in these major tournaments on here.
