I don't deny it's impressive but I'm sure a lot of people just like to hit a few balls about and have fun, just like in real golf.

How do these players exert topspin then?

These folks consider it "no spin".

The ball reaction is still the same whether it's called topspin or no spin (with dot all the way up)...I think the question was just to clarify what Chris considers it as, in regards to his distances.

I think it was Runwme who asked for yardage's with the R11's a week or so back with "0 50 and 100" BS,, then posted pics with the dot on top as 0 dot in middle as 50%, etc.

Again, since ball reaction is the same, it's just a matter of clarification for those who view in a different way.

Up until I seen that post, I thought everyone looked at the spin dot the same....

Maybe it's just me, but I thought it was pretty basic to look at it like I do.

No spin means exactly what it says,  no spin added top or back where the dot stays in the center of the ball.   From that point, any movement upward is giving top spin and same for moving it downward for back spin.

From center of ball to all the way up would be 0-100% Topspin and from center of ball all the way down would be 0-100% back spin.

    No doubt about it Hazen,

But I see where those who view it the other way are actually correct.

The only way IRL to get "Top Spin" on the ball would be a worm burner;)

Agree. When I say 1/4 bs with a Callaway ball, to me that means covering the V on the ball. 1/2 would be the dot covering 1/2  of that V and full all the way down. Same for using topspin but this only really means anything when you're trying to convey spin application to somebody.

I'm one of them. The production of these charts in no way impacts those of us that play that way. The charts are produced for a different segment of the WGT population. I do appreciate what goes into them and what they are designed to do

I wonder what you consider as having too much time on your hands. If it took 3 hours to produce and helps the individual save $100 in lost credits, is it still a waste of time? $50? $250?

Likewise, if the chart is produced and published as a work of charity that saves those who use it a few thousand dollars across the entire site is it too much time on his hands just because the chartmaker is not being reimbursed personally for it?

Next time you are in a bunker IRL try hitting the ball just above the equator and see the ball fly for distance. This is a great way to get a lot more distance with say a 3, 4 or 5 iron if the lie allows it. If you try and play the usual splash get it out at all costs shot you will be amazed at the distance you will get with the worm burner shot out of a bunker. Try it, it works.

I've always considered leaving the spin dot alone as no spin. If I raise it 7/8 to the top that creates top spin. That's how you can get 53 yrds out of a 50 yrd wedge. or 86 yrds out of a 80 yrd Cleveland wedge.

If I do not touch the dot on either of those clubs, assuming a flat landing area, they stop on a dime.

Same goes for the driver. How else are we getting all that roll if top spin is not being transferred to the ball?

Clear to the bottom is full backspin, middle is no spin, clear to the top is full topspin.
