When I talk about stats... I mean things like this:

    Driving accuracy %:

    http://www.usopen.com/en_US/scoring/stats/fir.html

    Course stats after Rd 1:

    http://www.usopen.com/en_US/scoring/stats/round1.html

Then compare our Championship qualifiers to the pros.

yeah comparing the results to the first round of the real life tournament a 57 cut score would be kicking everybodies butt  in real life the US open has a leader with the score of -4 then tiger -1 but on wgt its -13 and they call this the most realistic golf game online haha get it right WGT your not even close to real life all you have is gr8 graphics when it comes to specifications to the real courses

U.S. OPEN -- Nick Watney scores a TWO on hole 17.  A TWO!!!

VIRTUAL U.S. OPEN -- (running the stats now to see how many have done that)

    Advantage:  Nick Watney!

What about the HIO on #7 in the practice round on Wednesday!!!  When will that happen on WGT?  With the pin where it is and not having the ability to shape a shot, I'm not sure it will happen.  I think the pin would have to be front left for a HIO on WGT, or at least left side.

However, that said, we don't want scores in the 50s either.

In the coming releases there will be a series of features that will better address this.  And then, when that happens, a round like Bubba or Phil's today...

    ...much more likely.

    I like... very much!

But this game is so realistic because the people who shoot 53 on here actually believe, in their miniscule and itsy bitsy minds, that they can actually compete with the pros IRL.

    No they don't. That's absurd.

I do believe you've made your cynical point. Here's something that fixes that-imagination. It's OK to enter Fantastland once in a while and imagine you could actually do in RL that you can here. That's what makes it fun. Just add 10 strokes to everybody's score and then look at it.  :-)

@saltire-The greens there are hard and fast, unlike here. You won't see many players sticking Championship greens.

Would be cool if we could practice on them then as it requires a totally different approach game.

Round 1 of the WGTN Tourney is on Champ greens.

Think they should make variable winds at WGT.. instead of saying the wind is 15 mph tailwind... it could be between 5 and 20.. and also wind direction should switch a bit... I know I'll hate when the wind says 20 tailwind and suddenly it changes to 5 and my ball lands in the pond... but then that would be more realistic, nobody would be sure their ball is going to land within 10 ft  90 % of the time. IRL wind is never constant, you can get a gust at any time... and your ball will land anywhere but where you expected it. I can't still see the reason why a wind affects more a wedge shot here than a drive. Anyone knows why? You aim a couple of yds right for a wedge and sometimes a little more for a drive or a 3w with the same wind... Is that so in real life? I would guess that as the ball is gonna be flying for a longer time the effect would be bigger , but sometimes the ball goes 5 yds right with a wedge and only 3 with a longer club... not so sure this should be this way.... or is it?

Certainly... endless play qualifiers are hardly realistic.
    Then why do it?

Because we have thousands & thousands of new players coming into the game for the Virtual U.S. Open, we wanted to create a less intimidating format.

And given there is a sweepstakes winner along with with the championship winner, it still creates a nice opportunity for those new players.  They simply have to post a score.

But the greatest part of this format... once they do, you'd be surprised how many will post another.  And another.

The leaderboard is certainly a motivator for the most competitive of players.  But with many others (esp. the new players), it's getting into red numbers, or breaking 80, 90 or 100... or beating their co-workers... etc.
