WGT, iv'e been watching a bit of golf lately, and have noticed these guys hitting 150/160 out of fairway bunkers, seen Ricky fowler smashing a 6 iron onto the green out of one... and the sand looked soft too.

however i have found that we have it pretty rough out fairway bunkers on wgt...even with a 15-20% lie its pretty hard to have a crack at the green on a lot of holes. i just had it on #9 Bethpage, landed in the left side bunker on the dogleg with a 15-20% lie with 160 to the flag, now here i should have been able to pull out the 175 and put it the centre of the green(island green, surrounded by rough) but instead it lands 40y short in the rough.

This is just one example, but theres plenty more out there. there is really only on option here when you land in a fairway bunker...and thats to hit it out to 120-130 max, even less for a 40-50% lie.

Oakmont is another great example, hit in any of those FB,s and you can kiss GIR goodbye.

i think you should tweek it up a bit....get rid of 40-50% lies completely, and give us more distance out of fairway bunkers.

    hi

some can be like that, i hit plenty of 3 irons from sand on kiawah and bp while others have softer sand which require sa wedge to get out

those are meant to be as punishment, not just a way to hit to the green.

Yes, but on tour you rarely see a tour pro taking a sw out to get back to the fairway. They normally hit to the center of the green with 5 or 6 iron. It would be way more realistic if your ball didn't dive into the rough after a 100% and excellent click.

No it would make the game more UNrealistic,  scores now are plenty low enough. We do not need the f/way bunkers made to play easier.

The forums already include enough posts about the game being too easy.

If you hit a bunker expect to scramble and try to save par.

I agree Chris. The OP found one of the few (only) areas where WGT is harder than the real thing.

Agree again.  Bunkers are meant to be hazards. They are not supposed to be an easy birdie if you find a fairway bunker.  Get out on the fairway and try to make par.

What you see is pros hitting out of bunkers on medium hard championship courses. I dare say you didn't see those kind of fairway bunker shots last weekend in the U.S. Open. Most of the courses we have on here are set up for either U.S. Open or British Open conditions not every week PGA course conditions.

It's not so much they have "different" sands, but how the ball lies IRL s WGT.

Assuming no high lip, the Pros routinely hit long irons out of the bunkers when the ball "rolls in".

It layup time in many cases if the ball flies dead into the bunker...again all subject toball flight as well.

But for the most part even balls that trickle into bunkers here, get plugged it seems.

To the OP and the bunker on 9 at BPB, that is one of the many places WGT does use slope in the shot.

    Edit;

I meant to add if you are on that upslope in the 10/15% lie, a punched 3wood puts you about 45 yards out in the 30/40....just right for a 64 degree wedge:)

here is a great tip i learned early on.......stay out of them....believe me it does help.the pga does not have bunkers it has well maintained areas of sand ,not much of a hazard for the top players but put that same player in a  bunker on a british course and watch them sweat.

What could be done to make the bunkers more realistic is to vary the % by which the ball is buried. At Bethpage it is almost always 15/20%, at St. A's 30/40%, etc. Although the consistency of the sand plays a part, in reality, two different players will get two different lies from the same bunker.

To some extent this is random, but it largely depends--as already mentioned--on whether your ball trickles into the bunker--which should give you an easy lie--or pounds directly into the bunker on the fly--which should leave your ball buried pretty deep.

This kind of variation could be programmed into the WGT experience.
