it's just the greed in me.......plus i'm 10 whine posts away from the Crystal Whiner Award.

sometimes course management is the safest best option.....but i see the best of front 9 as a 26....and if there's a chance of sailing the pond....then i'm going for eagle.

Why didn't you take the water out of play completely. You're asking for trouble taking the water on when you have the fairway to aim at. You nearly made 2 really good approach shots. A yard further to the left and you were next to the pin, so going over the water in the first place was a mistake.

Also a headwind with full back will knock yardage of the shot no matter how small the wind. Especially with long shots as there is more wind to slow the ball down. The ball hangs in the air and goes even higher, hence if you hit a wedge into the wind, you will get a lot more backspin on the green.

Its easy to blame WGT for bad shots and errors in judgement, yet we are human and always look for an excuse for something we don't quite understand. This game in particular.

    TT.

Piz, you're wrong. Backspin into a head wind will knock off yardage with the Nike balls. tbe knows it too.

Into a gale maybe, but he said a 3mph headwind.

FWIW tbe, I believe you're correct.   Considering your average puts you in the top 25 players on WGT you have the credibility, with me at least,  to state you know that shot inside and out and normally it clears the water.  Add to that the fact I don't use Nikes so I can't say how they perform.

Two shots like that both going 228 yards into the water is too much of a coincidence. Makes me go hmmmm.

What you have to remember is that the rated distance is with roll and neither of those shots got any roll because they hit the bank and bounced back into the lake, Imo poorly thought out shots. Sure you didn't have to lay up but you could have and should have aimed at the middle of the green instead of taking dead aim at the hole. You make a poor decision then rant at WGT for robbing yardage when it is fairly evident that you got close to the rated distance in the air but with no roll.

Problem is, I (and most surely TBE also) have gotten 240+ carry out of that 3W into slight headwinds on multiple occasions, hell, most occasions. No elevation changes involved. Why sometimes (usually when I don't want it) and not others (when I am counting on it)? That's my question.

Keep under estimating that wind piz, and you'll end-up with the same result every-time.
