I have noticed this, but I don't know if anyone else has. Probably someone else has. I played Tiger Woods PGA games like 2008 offline. That game runs a smooth meter. That is offline. Now I been playing this game online for 6 months now. I believe that these meter issues are not all due to WGT. I believe it not all is from our own computers either. Some is from lack of maintenance, but not all of it. I believe it has more to do with internet connection. The more players in one game at the same time affects the way the meter is smoother or not.

I am not meaning all games with like A/S, skins, match play, blitz are the only notice. It is in stroke play too. You got to consider a great big amount of players on this site at the same time using internet. Internet from others effect the meter too. You can say it is speculation, but if you like say on alternate your playing 3 other players in the game, and two out of four are with 1.5 meg connection, and the others are on 40 meg connection. The ones on 40 meg, even if they have a better connection are still affected by the lower connection.

There is also the servers too. If the servers are being pretty much close to full the game will not run as smoothly either. A lot of sites online make this mistake by ignoring what needs to be done and keep it the way it is, and come up with excuses to not put more servers up. You can tell when servers are being to full. You don't have to be a site manager to know if servers are being overloaded.

I not trying to be on one side or the other. I am just saying it is a combination of both sides that cause this issue, and usually it is both trying to get away of not doing something to fix the problem. One or other tells them to do something, but not both are doing anything to fix it or they say they are and not really doing anything. Not saying everyone is a liar, but the majority of this world is. If you can get both sides to work together, then things will work better, and less complaining in the forum.

    Good points.

I notice the meter "jerkiness" more if I come onto the site from Hotmail.

If I come on through Google generally it,s ok.

There again I have,nt played in a mixed game so don,t know how I would be affected.

To helpfully address my thoughts on some of this:

PGA Tour, Like Links Golf, Like TW golf as you mentioned are loaded or downloaded games and run off the speed of ones hard drive with internet connection through Port Forwarding which still had some down side to online playing. Browser ran games are completely different and can be more subject to outlying influences from both your system and what browser your are running.

I believe that these meter issues are not all due to WGT.

I believe it has more to do with internet connection. The more players in one game at the same time affects the way the meter is smoother or not.

The only thing internet connections remotely might have to do with ones meter is a possible service interruption in the middle of a swing. What happens with ones  swing meter is dependent on ones system and what one is running both hardware and software. From my research and experience of tracking my meter, the three biggest culprits of meter stutters are ones video card transfer rates, CPU load and monitor refresh rate.

You can say it is speculation, but if you like say on alternate your playing 3 other players in the game, and two out of four are with 1.5 meg connection, and the others are on 40 meg connection. The ones on 40 meg, even if they have a better connection are still affected by the lower connection.

The only effect it would have is on the lower speeds load time or internet interruptions causing disconnections.

There is also the servers too. If the servers are being pretty much close to full the game will not run as smoothly either.

Gray area here as it simply is a matter of what one is considering overloaded servers are effecting. Granted I do agree during heavier usage times there is the need for additional servers as there seems to be more disconnects or game screen freezes and the like but they don't effect my meter.

I not trying to be on one side or the other. I am just saying it is a combination of both sides that cause this issue, and usually it is both trying to get away of not doing something to fix the problem.

So with this statement one might question if you are working on doing your part, A better part of us feel WGT is. Not everything is going to run smoothly 100% of the time some and there is always going to be some kind of bugs or whatnot  come up that will frustrate the crap out of one. How a person handles it is up to them

Not saying everyone is a liar, but the majority of this world is.

Ones expressed outlook of others can be a reflection of ones own character or their perspective of life for others to perceive.

If you can get both sides to work together, then things will work better, and less complaining in the forum.

Very well said, remember this as you go to post your own thoughts and reflect back on this statement.

Your internet connection will not affect the meter if you don't allow the game to prefetch items (there's an option for that) and if you don't allow other applications to access the internet during your swing (or otherwise load your cpu).

It's easy to prove.  Set up your swing, unplug your internet cable, and take your swing.  The swing will proceed right up until you hit.  It will then freeze, waiting for new information from the server.

Server loading will definitely affect the game in terms of loading, disconnects, etc.  No question of that.  A flaky internet connection will make enjoyable play almost impossible.

My connection was flaky for a month.  I could not convince Time Warner to do anything other than blah, blah, blah.  I could not play MP because I'd be sure to disconnect at some point.  I could get on about twice a day, mostly in the middle of the night.

Finally, I queried my modem, got the signal strengths and log entries (buncha FAILs), and presented them with written proof.  Out they came (finally!) and determined that there was a bad amplifier affecting the entire neighborhood.  My signal strength went from -19 dbmv to -3 dbmv (-10 would be desired for internet).  I haven't had a failure to load or a disconnection since.

Not many people will have that same problem, but it does show the dependence of the game on a whole chain of links.

Not all modems are the same, but if you'd like to TRY to query your modem, try 192.168.100.1 in the address bar of your browser.

If you are running windows, and the modem  you are using has a built in router, which the gentlemen above shows, use the following command if you are using windows.

From the start button, click on run, enter the following command.  CMD.  This will bring up the command window.  What you need is the gateway address of the modem that you are using.  Generally it start with 192.

The next command you will enter is IPCONFIG.   It will show your IP address and alot of other information.  But you will also see gateway address.  Enter that in your browser address window.

Another way is to check your current internet speed and compare it to what your download speed should be with your ISP.

Use the following link to perform a speedtest:   http://www.speedtest.net/

Checking your internet speed will tell you if you have a line problem with your ISP.  If there is a large discrepancy between what you subscribe for and what you are actually getting, (note speed test link above), it definitely indicates a line quality problem.

However, that being said, I know of a few players that really have a slow internet connection.  The only impact is loading, which is slower.

    hyena64:
Then why are all these people claiming all these grandiose computers & such having so much trouble, & I'm not? Can't be maintenance, cause I hardly ever do any.

That is the 64 million dollar question.  One can ask the following questions.

    1. Hardware
    2. MB
    3. CPU
    4. O/S
    5. Video  Card
    6. Finally and equally important, what software has been installed on ones computer.
    7. Driver Updates and software updates on the O/S.

The combinations are endless, and it would take someone from WGT to organize and cross reference data to see if there is a common denominator.

    Just saying.

    Computers are finicky,

Well said. The combinations are, in fact, endless, because we have no control over the state of each players computer before they log in to play WGT.

I'm not sure what you are alluding to here, because the only things our players have in common are: Owning a PC, having a browser with Flash installed and access to an internet connection.

This is simultaneously restrictive (as far as troubleshooting goes) and freeing (as far as accessibility goes).
