So what are you saying, there should be no warnings? As an ex commecial pliot should we just abandon pre flight checks and have the attitude "she'll be alright mate"
Having lived in Hong Kong many years, typhoons are a regular occurence (and not the same force as a hurricane) but people still ignore those warnings, often a windsurfer out catching big waves will die as a result or in the extreme a pilot deciding to land in such conditions flipped the MD11 on landing when noone else was contemplating flying in. Not only does it endanger themselves but also rescue teams.
The only ingorant pussies as you put it, are the ones who do not heed the warnings. Yes I agree that often the warnings are sometimes over zealous, but they are issued for the worst case scenario.
