While most of us are enjoying a friendly game and some rants and raves this week end, just stop and spare a thought for all those that are being ravaged by the hurricanes and storms,

It only takes a breath to take your Life- House-Children and loved ones away.

    Just spare a thought.

    Russ

Thx....where I live is on the nothern tip of the Chesapeake Bay in  line of its projected landing so we are bracing for it and the other storm merging from the north. We'll see what kind of weather we get hit with. Irene was pretty bad last year with the damages and power outages it caused. The normal buying panic hit yesterday so lots of shortages of many needed items in the stores.

There are a lot of things (storms, etc.) that take people's lives.  On the other hand there are a lot of ignorant pussies that panic over the slightest little thing.  I guess people are looking for excitement and stories in a life where such things are extremely rare.

So what are you saying, there should be no warnings? As an ex commecial pliot should we just abandon pre flight checks and have the attitude "she'll be alright mate"

Having lived in Hong Kong many years, typhoons are a regular occurence (and not the same force as a hurricane) but people still ignore those warnings, often a windsurfer out catching big waves will die as a result or in the extreme a pilot deciding to land in such conditions flipped the MD11 on landing when noone else was contemplating flying in. Not only does it endanger themselves but also rescue teams.

The only ingorant pussies as you put it, are the ones who do not heed the warnings. Yes I agree that often the warnings are sometimes over zealous, but they are issued for the worst case scenario.

The east coast will be fine. It's water, not snow. A couple of months from now this would have been  a serious problem but now it's just water. This isn't New Orleans and the media DOES make a mountain out of a molehill here. It's like the fires in the west-the media in the east has California burning to a crisp every fire season just like the west has the east buried under 50 feet of snow every storm we get.

I'm 350 miles west of NYC and the dang stores here are selling out of supplies!! That's absurd.
