. for me, I am just as accurate with a 6 Iron as a 9 Iron.

You must be a reincarnation of Seve Ballesteros then.

    I don't think so,lol

BB says.."backspin with the wind will give the ball lift/carry and more yards over flat/uneven gound. topspin into wind can cut through the wind giving more yards but with this shot the ball will not get the same height and will not carry the same yards as backspin."

    LeGeNdCrUsHeR:

Yes, look at the flux players that have came back stating that they now use a variety of different spins to achieve max distance off the tee.  Top spin or back spin for max driving distance was the initial argument.

Now, max driving distance can be achieved with top spin, as our 400 yard drivers in htis thread have just figured out.

Think you're both saying the same thing.  :-)

High winds in the December monthly at STA, par 5 14th, hit a TS drive 367, 235 left downwind, how do u stop a 4 iron, it went 262 yards.

Look at the flat area to the right of the green, hole high. If you can land there you can roll down to the pin. The key is trying to hit that flat patch just right.

Not all have 400 yard drivers, and yes max driving distance means absolutely nothing unless your standing on a par 3 or taking a long lron shot into the green, it is here both top and backsip can be your best friend in this game.

    a fact is a fact.....

    golf wind.htm

..watch below  ..of course you can drive to over 400yrds if you land a golf ball on a concrete surface ....lol....even with free clubs and balls...

heres a pic of clubface angle for optimum loft

The R11 S finished well in the stats category, a decent average of 106.9 MPH in average club head speed, and a distance of 259.5 yards. The R11S surprisingly generated more spin than anticipated. The higher spin was the reason for its average showing in distance.

and finally .....rbz versus r11s....the difference  of launch angle....

By that, less backspin is best for carry. The real gain with top spin is after it lands. In this game, anyway.

I have recently experimented with using differing amounts of backspin as I got bored always moving the dot all the way down, and I found that 3/4 BS was far more effective , both in distance and trajectory. This was in low wind situations, like 8 to 15 mph stuff.

On courses like Kiawah, Okie and Congo I am getting 300 plus yards regardless of whether it is a t/wind or h/wind in low wind.

A hypothetical bet to anyone - if I was to play Olympic and hit every fairway, but was 30 yards behind you in distance, I think I would take the $$$$
