  I do know one this: we'd have to go back and re-shoot it to update it and that's too far off.

  Thanks for the answer Icon....There would obviously be some considerable time and money needed to do that  Just a thought, but, it seems as though WGT makes a definite effort to get the courses that host majors....and I think it would be nice to update them, if needed, before/when they host another. So, Bethpage...Congressional, etc...if they undergo changes, maybe only update them if they host another major. But, as St. Andrews is clearly an Iconic (sorry...couldn't resist) property, I'd hope that perhaps WGT would do it in conjuncton with the next Open they host.

  I've only been to STA a few times and I'm sure some of the Scots can better answer the grass question.  My opinion from my playing time there is that the grass doesn't grow at nearly the speed that the grass grows in the states, probably due to the lack of sun on a regular basis. During my last 2 week visit to Scotland, we played twice a day and I can not recall seeing any fairway or rough mowing and this was during the early August time frame.  They were moving the greens but never saw the fairways mowed.  The high temperature during our visit was probably about 70 and we had rain on pretty much every day, at least for a bit of the time.  Not sure if this is common or not for early August but I think that when we (US golfers) think of course maintenance, we think of the greens being mowed daily and the fairways 2 or 3 times a week and rough once a week.  Don't think you would see that happen in Scotland.

  Lol , you must have been here during a heatwave , honestly it's not usually that warm here and of course we always have the sea breeze / howling wind  , and yes we do have a reasonable amount of days when it rains .

  Don't notice the fairways being cut all that often , but quite how frequently / infrequently they're done i'm not sure .

  I still have to cut my grass weekly , so the lack of sun hasn't deterred it from growing , maybe it's the sandy nature of the "soil" on the fairways that inhibits quicker  growth ?

  Thanks for the answer, TR, makes sense. When I lived in California we had a lawn that consisted most of what was called crabgrass. The grass grew like miniature ivy in a flat pattern. It wasn't the nicest lawn in the 'hood but it was always flat. The real grass that tried to grow straight up within it is what we had to cut. This is what I thought SA was.
