OK..fellow hackers gonna share some words of wisdom with yall bout Oakmonts' dreaded 9th hole...when flag is in the front...I myself will not try to go at that pin...Ive finally learned after putting it past the hole 25-40 ft...that its a total SUCKER pin!...I try put my approach shots in the very front bunker...That leaves you a very manageable uphill bunker shot..(in the range of 12-18yds w/ normal 30-40% penalty)...and then if you dont hole out...very manageable uphill putt....Well thats it my fellow hacks...give my way a day in court see what cha think...execute it like that...your scorecard more times than not gonna have a 4 for 9th @ Oakmont....happy holidays guys....late...gdub

Agree #9 on Oakmount (original location) is VERY difficult. I do best putting it in the trap and punching out also.

    #9 on Oakmount

Try hitting the ridge behind the flag, don't land short ....and buy Nikes :-))

Some parts of that bunker aren't 30/40%. I agree though that it's the best option.

If you're going to lay up, do it properly. It's a helluva lot easier to get close with a full wedge from the fairway than it is to hit an 18 yd shot from the bunker.

Just because it's closer doesn't mean it's easier.

Landing your approach shot in the front bunker is the right way to play OCC #9. Same goes for BPB #15. Two other holes that I find nearly impossible to birdie(mostly due to pin placement) are OCC #6 with pin front center, and BPB #9 with pin back right. OCC #6 with fron center pin placement is as deceptive a hole as there is on the game. Looks like cake, but unless you absolutley stick your tee shot, you will be VERY happy just to par the little bugger. BPB #9 is deceptive as well because of the long approach shot to an uphill green. Very tough to get the ball to stop within birdie distance. I have never birdied that hole and it doesnt seem like it should be all that tough to do.
