edit: Thanks Corwyn. I used the link you posted on the 2nd page to upload my card and it works great. I just changed the height from 550 to 400.

    Great!

(For anyone else interested that link to a nice posting service is http://img.acianetmedia.com/)

FYI: The key dimension is width, and that can be set to 450 and still fit in the forum post width space, e.g:

Hyena64: You too seem to be a 24/7 player, weekdays and weekends... Is that really right?

Yes sir it is. Being on disability, I can be available at "almost" any time, barring something coming up that I cannot predict.  I am usually up till dawn most days EST, so if that's helpful for some other hard to match time zones, pencil me in. But yes, I can be available most any time needed.  And thank you for hosting another one & kudos again on the first one.

Thanks for the clarification, hyena, and for your flexibility!

It's great to have you involved again!

    Corwyn:

    jimbean346:
I'll throw four sleeves of balls into the prize pool (I suppose that's 2K of credits if you're looking at Nike balls being the general weapon of choice). Divide it up how you want but my suggestion would possibly be the low score per round gets one sleeve of balls.

What a great offer! Thank you so much, Jim!

    jimbean346:

Perhaps you should give those balls I've offered to anyone who can manage a par or better on 9 at Oaky............................eeeeeekkkkkk. Forgot how frickin' impossible that hole is once you remove the brakes from the ball. Add in UL's and it's ripe for double's, trip's and bigger.

I'm hesitant to make it for low score per round, since it would almost certainly go to somebody also finishing in top 3, and the placing prizes are already nice and generous IMO.

My hope with the special prizes is to help encourage players to stick it out through the whole tourney so, if you don't mind, I'd like to apply your offer to the following:

2 players to win a sleeve of balls of their choice for Greatest Improvement (relative to par) throughout the tourney (from Round 1 to Round 4)

1 player to win sleeve of balls of their choice for Most Birdies across whole tourney (goes to next placed player not already in top 3 places)

1 player to win sleeve of balls of their choice for Least Bogies or Worse across whole tourney (goes to next placed player not already in top 3 places)

How does that sound to you?

Or, if you want to substitute any of these out for making a par on #9 at Oakmont, that would be great!!!

Your comp C so I leave it up to you how you distribute ;)

... for now, Player Pairings are up and posted.

Please see the 2nd post of the thread here, and do note the detailed instructions. Thanks!

We have 32 players in the tourney (and are still accepting any late entrants until midnight PST tonight, Fri 1/11).

Tourney proper starts Saturday 1/12, with first round due for completion any time between 1/12-1/20.

When putting together the linked player list, I did notice quite a few folks have Starters in the bag, so watch out everyone, it appears some of the field are putting in quite a bit of practice!

    Good luck to all!

Quick question; can we break up an 18 into two rounds of 9?

I always found this useful when running the tour as it allowed people who couldn't get on for three hours together in a single sitting to get it finished over a couple of days.

    Cheers

    J

Once again Corwyn did a stunning and spectacular job putting together the Time Availability Chart and the pairings. I'm really happy to see how many players we have signed up to Tough It Out and Have Some fun. I want to remind everyone again about posting screen shots of the front and back scorecards and the "Approach" screen from the post game stats. We need the approach screen numbers for GIR and Ave Distance to the pin so we can award prizes. Please remember to capture those screens. If one in a pair doesn't know how to do screen captures, be sure to tell your partner early in the game so they know to do it post round for both of you. Have a plan to capture those stats after 9 holes as well because if you get disconnected on the back side, you'll be able to just play the back and have combined scores and stats for the leaderboard.

For those who haven't played much UL, it's gonna be hard. There's no other way to put it. Corwyn and I preach learning UL with starter clubs anyway so as a group we'll be learning to play UL better than most and the foundation will be under our feet when we play UL with our fancy clubs. I equate it to watching re-runs of Shell's Wonderful World of Golf from the 50's. These clubs can't throw darts so hitting run up shots will become the norm. Despite what most of us did, rid ourselves of the starters as soon as possible, the clubs and ball can effectively play these courses in these conditions rather well. Course management is a primary concern right off the tees. Once you get familiar with the geography of the fairways, you'll seek out better lies to set up your approach shots. Learning the carry and roll out distances of these irons is also very important. You have to practice a little and get the numbers in your head. Playing UL is just adjusting the face angle of the club to hit it straight. Ignore how silly some  your aiming points are going to look and just focus on the ball getting on the greens. Putting is putting. You have to make anything possible whenever you can to score decent in this thing.

One thing Corwyn and I do all the time is call our shots to each other while we play UL with starters if our tee shots are close together and on par 3's.. First away in the fairway chats what club, backspin and aiming point before the shot. Once hit we tell if we dinged it. The second away is like the mulligan. You get all the information from the first shot to help your shot. If it's short, you hit more club or less backspin. If it's long, you adjust the other way. Left or right you adjust based on aiming point and whether the first dinged the shot. We figure through 18 holes you end up even helping each other and you both score better. We also learned the UL much faster with the 2 shot approach.

Course management, patience and great putting are the key to success in this style play. These 4 courses take you on a journey through their designs and you can't fight it. The courses have to be played as they were designed.  It's just like playing in a Real Open. Par is a positive on any hole.

Good Luck to all and Good Fun during your games. Remember the fun.

    Corwyn:

    POSTING SCORES:

Please note these requirements for the tourney: As well as final Front 9 & Back 9 scorecard snapshots, you'll need to remember to take full screen shots on your 2nd shot on any of the last five holes, as well as on the Green, to verify Uneven Lies, and other conditions. (It might be prudent to take one on the 1st fairway as well, so you've got one in reserve in case you forget later.) [Example screenshots will be given below in the next post]

Just one question, will BOTH players have to submit these screenshots or will one suffice?

    From last tourney's practice:

Usually, each should take their own snapshots while it's their turn, because this the best evidence of the conditions by the grid shown.

If one has troubles doing so, the other may jump in. (*)

For the stats, one is enough because it contains both players. If both do so, there is a redundancy for mishaps.

I suppose the spreadsheet form to enter the data of a round will be available again. (*)
