Thinking over this whole topic again after some sleep has put a slightly different slant on my opinion.
I have never believed that being able to hit the ding every shot is necessary to score really low. Many of the top players have proven this to be the case and indeed deliberately play to miss early or late on many shots.
Over the last 18 months I would say that there has been a huge "dumbing down" of the game in general. What I mean by that is that it has become a very much easier game than it once was, assuming you have the best equipment. Huge increases in club distances, accuracy and ball spin all mean that for those that know this game inside out it's actually a rarity to miss a fairway or green, never mind make bogey. This means that any cheat software available is in fact becoming less effective than it was by comparison to a couple of years ago. An early or late click now sees the ball go to 18 feet, 2 years ago you'd have missed the green, a big difference.
None of the above changes my view on the fact that there will be players using some cheat programs and I still firmly believe that they can give players a competitive advantage. What I do believe is that every time WGT improves the equipment that advantage is diluted. I wish we were able to see it eradicated and not be an issue at all in future but I think that's unlikely. I just hope for the good of the game; that the winners of the big WGT tournaments this year, will be those who earn their victory by fair means and a lot of ability and practice.
