Let's take an isolated example of a mid-iron approach to the back pin of SA#4 with a moderate tail wind at 11 o'clock. A player hitting G10 irons with say Legend balls might easily ding the shot ten times and not be within 10ft. With that level of accuracy par is the expected result regardless of click accuracy. But for somebody hitting R11s, a ding might be the difference between a tricky 15ft putt and a simple 5ft putt.
Shot selection is a joke now, which is why WGT is so keen to push UL even in it's unfinished state.
The bold part is the key, I have not come across too many truer statements here in the forums.
The days of the G10s and GI-SDs was a game of skill, and actually involved thought.
Now it takes a matter of minutes to get a feel for these top level irons, and the game has become, aim, click, ding, and stop a 3I from 225 yds dead with a tail wind.
That same shot with the clubs noted above, would involve a lot more thought, like where should I land this so it rolls out 7-15 yds, and possibly get a rare chance at bird on #4 SAs.
Every hole has become a birdie hole and has taken the shot selection right out of the game.
I really enjoy the UL even in its current state. It punishes you for mistakes, and it makes you even look at your shots, including your drives, and sometimes even play a 3WD off the tee in hopes you get a flatter lie. The shot selection is way more important, bringing back some thought into the game.
Many of the elite players aren't playing near as much as they used too, I would tend to believe for these reasons.
