    The wonderful thing about a towel is that not only is it good for throwing in, it's also good for throwing up.

    It is not true that Romans ate so much that they would visit a room called the vomitorium to be sick inbetween courses. A vomitorium is actually just an exit corridor in a building.

    I always doubted the veracity of that story anyway, it's just too way out there.

    Paul, good detective work.  I looked it up right after posting only to discover that it did indeed provide a quick exit, usually from the amphitheater, and wasn't really a place to make room for more feasting.

    On the other hand, I've read reports that Roman soldiers would occasionally pour copious amounts of wine into a comrade (wasn't that difficult to get him to keep drinking) and then stick a sword in his belly just to watch the wine pour out and maybe drink a bit of it themselves.
