Our youngest is 16 now. She's been the joy of my life. For the last year, she's been suffering from severe anxiety and depression.

Hey Rob ... I went through an anger phase ... during that point in a girls life, it can be pretty confusing.  I took up Kung Fu at 15 and it really helped with my self-confidence and discipline.  If you can afford it, I recommend it for her.  The first year will be a struggle, but after that it will start to come rather easily ... and the lessons you learn from a great Shifu will last her a lifetime.

I truly hope you the very best with her.  It's a very difficult time ... I'm sure for both of you!

    Kat ♥

Great read Rod. My daughter went through a similar phase and with your support she will get through this.

Her problem was low self esteem. of which I felt partly responsible for - staying in one country for 5 years then moving to the next meant friends came and went (I once asked my son, had he made new friends - the reply was no, can't be bothered, either we move or they move on). Then there was bullying etc, it is a damned tough age. To compound matters she started modelling and the fricken expectations to be like a stick (yup you guessed i - eating disorder started.

The good news is she is fine now and has flourished.

Tough for all at the time however.

It always helps to get it out. Holding in can be a very hard thing. Like I have said many times, this game is virtual but the friends are real. Thanks for sharing and remember we are always here if needed.

Just came across this . Outstanding thread !!. My Name is Steve. Will be 51 in Feb. Married 15 years to my best friend. No kids but a 3 year old chocolate lab named Cocoa. Born and raised in Altoona, PA. I moved to the State of Delaware after College  in 83 and a few of my friends started calling me Toona. Has stuck ever since. Since then have lived in VA and now reside in Ohio. I smoke Camels(should Quit) and have an occasional libation.Have to have a few vices LOL. In 2005 my Wife went in for a surgical procedure and ended up having a stroke in the recovery room. Since she just had surgery they couldn't give her any of the new fancy clot busting drugs. So was pretty bad. She spent 6 months in an intensive therapy care center.  Promised her there that I would do any thing to get her home.  Happy to say that other then some brief hospital stays that is where she is. Can't say enough about the nursing aides that help people like my wife. Not sure what I'd have to do without them. Takes a lot off my mind since I still work and thus i know that she has someone looking after her while I'm not there. I use to play RL golf but gave it up. Just couldn't justify it. I found WGT in Jan of 2010 and has been a godsend. Have met so many great people here that have helped me threw some really tough times . With the added plus of giving me my golf fix :-)

So true Renni , I consider my CC as my second family. I usually don't visit the main forum that often but will be my New Years resolution to come by more.

Funny time of year this, bittersweet memories and such. I was thinking about friends I have had in my life and I was lucky to have 8 real close, close friends, not just people you socialize with, I mean friends who would do anything to help you, just because they love you.

I'm not that old (52), so it's quite upsetting for me  to realise that 7 of them are dead now. One died due to alcohol, two committed suicide, another had a motorcycle accident and fell 600ft from a mountain pass in Greece , one had a respiratory failure, one a heroin overdose, the other one choked to death on a piece of pork rind while eating at home alone.

What a list, you couldn't make that sh*t up!

That brings us to my last living friend. Six months ago he was rushed to hospital with pancreatitus (sp?) Two days later he stopped breathing and went into a coma. He was the on full life support for 3 months while his hands and feet started dying off and his organs failing. His family were waiting on the nod from doctors to switch off life support. Suddenly he stopped deteriorating, his heart got stronger and then he was able to breathe again unaided. His brain however will never recover and he now sits in hospital staring into space and drooling. I have no idea how much awareness he has, no-one does. Sorry this aint a happy story people but it's real.

Anyway thanks for listening (?) I'll come back tomorrow with a more positive post.

Just Feel young. Its better that way. Stop thinking you are old even if it is. Being young...is creative...energy ..fun..

You do not take with you  what you created or accumulated. Its all just playing game. Thats about it.. its all one big illusion that we created because alternative is not fun.

    So play play..

PaulTon, a simply heart-wrenching and tragic post. Beautifully written. My condolences, both to you and his family.
