The unique wicker baskets are part of this grand course's rich history and I am so glad that they are present.  I'm sure there will be lot's of comments wondering what the heck they are, most likely from those that had never heard of Merion before this year.  Or Bobby Jones, perish the thought.

Yep, congratulations to World Golf Tour for the splendid photographic presentation of this unique course. Masterful .

Really looking forward to playing the full eighteen holes in 7/8 weeks time.

Merion in full is coming soon.  Getting just a little taste of Pebble - I can't think of a more desirable course - is a major tease and bound to annoy the WGT community.  Most of which are PAYING CUSTOMERS!

We have been getting a taste of pebble for almost 3 years now, it comes it goes, it comes it goes. Merion is a great addition but one course a year is BORING! I would gladly pay a friggin annual membership fee if we could get 2 to 3. Yes, I know how much work is involved, been here a long time....

As the story goes, the wicker baskets came about after a trip to England. After seeing a shepherd with a staff and atop the staff was a wicker basket containing food , in there to stop the animals getting to it! So the merion course designer (hugh wilson)thought that would look good on flagsticks so he included them in his design!

As has been said they are meant to stop the golfer reading the wind on the green(which i thought was the whole point of a flag)and they can be seen in any wind!

Apparently if you win the open you are given a wicker basket to keep!

might even be a back door stroke play too like Olympic last year.LOL

you mean you've not worked it out already :)

the putting's quite tight by the way.

Tip:  ......go into USGA 2013.....select Merion ctth.....exit out of game and go back in...in practise mode.

    tbe

Not happening for me.  I don't even see a practice mode.
